Tell me about it. I didn’t mind plaing FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, BASEBALL, DODGEBALL, SLAPSOCCER,AND VOLLEYBALL. But I couldn’t stand wrestling, tumbling, squaredancing, and gymnastics. I thought gym class was just a waste.
@flanders22, could you enlighten me, please? I don’t recall ever hearing of SLAPSOCCER (and Google is of no help on this one). Maybe my generation calls / called it something different.
Brings back fond memories. We would spend the entire year playing games, and at the end if it, they expected us to somehow do 50 situps in a minute, 10 chinups, run a mile, climb a rope, etc. Wtf? There was never a coordinated effort to gradually whip us into shape. It was like having us do arithmetic problems all year and then giving a test on differential calculus.
In 12 years of school, the only class I ever came close to failing was gym. I was terrible at sports! I’d get a “D” for effort. Except for one semester - an “A” for folk dance. I think I shocked the gym teacher.
I wasn’t inactive though. I took numerous dance classes and rode my bike all the time. Too bad I couldn’t get credit for the bike riding.
I too shocked the H.S. gym teacher I was far from his ideal then two years later the high school invited all those who had Athletic scholorships back I went back he did not seem to think that horseback riding was a sport.
At Dean’s age, I assume gym class is co-ed. Guess Heart is seeing a whole new side of him! Of course, all kids today have cell phones with cameras, so Dean’s striptease will be on Facebook in 5 minutes…
In California, when I was a kid, Gym was mandatory. If you got an “F”, you didn’t pass. I hated being forced to do things, so I failed Gym. I saw I wasn’t getting a diploma, so I quit school. Not graduating effected me for many years. All that because to provide jobs for gym teachers they made Gym mandatory!
There!…I finally got that off my chest.!
I didn’t like gym class either, especially once puberty hit. Group showers - yuk!
My sons didn’t have the same problem - we homeschooled them. I did enroll them in some phys. ed. classes with other homeschoolers, so they’d learn the basics of group sports. However, they got to take their showers at home.

I know, many people think a sport needs to involve a ball or puck.

I’m decently athletic, I’ve played sports before, but I HATE gym class/PE. I have a lot of reasons…

The way kids are wearing their breeches these days, I’m surprised I don’t see it more often out of a gym class

Or, from Cory in the House:
Cory: “What’s going on down there?” Meena: “The Sunshine Girls are taking pictures of your underwear!” Cory: “Please tell me I’ve still got them on!!”
