    OK…

So what’s happening here is that Dick read in the paper (which keeps changing its appearance, even though it’s the same issue) that these guys were being prosecuted. Wanting to feel like he’s part of the story, he hauled them into Police Hooters for some retroactive questioning.

Doesn’t police questioning normally occur prior to DA pressing charges?

Spiro Agnew and Dick Cavett are being questioned by Tracy? Now there’s a wrinkle in the plot I didn’t expect.

At least Dick finally got out of the house. Who’s he questioning there, Double Header? If their defense is that their only enemy is dead, then they just proved that two heads aren’t better than one.

Now what’s with the two counts? Is one of them Count Dracula?

I hope the ME properly identified the body before they buried him! And will he stay buried? If my vampire theory is correct, his tombstone could read “Out To Lunch, Back By Dawn.”

And what happened to Homeless Guy’s little dog? Just how hungry did that guy get?

Oh look at the glorious color scheme Isn’t it the best you’ve ever seen It dazzles, it blinds It really blows our minds But pay no attention to the script Deep indeed it has been dipped Tracy with his short left arm Displays his well known charm Heading up a murder investigation He looks like he has severe constipation A good lawyer could easily beat the rap Proving beyond a doubt, Tracy is full of bleeep But this is Naperville, land of delusion And we fervently hope for a swift conclusion But alas, that is not to be More of the same we are to see So grab a bottle and drink your fill As you are subjected to this swill.

Thanks all, for your comments the other day.

Flight Suit, I’m perplexed by Doofus’s questioning, too. As usual this installment has left out a crucial scene: DT’s explanation as to why he’s questioning these two. Is he accusing them of D-cubed’s murder? Or just reminding them that they’re accused of other crimes?

If Doofus wants to scare a confession out of them, he should have investigated them and come up with actual clues. A murder weapon, a witness, a hit man. DT sure isn’t going to scare them with his reputation, unless they’re afraid they could die laughing.

What’s next? Will Doofus tell Double Header “Oh, there are other people who don’t like you, like D-cubed’s widow,” or “Y’know, his private secretary knows about you, too.” This way Doofus can endanger another person, then bumble to the rescue when the bad guys try to harm her.

Rightwingmoron, I don’t know what’s with the sign, but I bet Neon Noodle is behind it! Or maybe he *is* the sign!

Count von Count, eh? Yes, that fits in with my theory. He’s probably here because of Miss Sue Doko and her head for figures, or maybe just her figure.

I’m keeping an open mind on that, HectorPriam, because the logic in this strip seems non-existent. For all I know he really is supposed to be Shaggy from Scooby-Doo.

So far we’ve seen no evidence that Doofus is aware of Homeless Guy’s existence, but that awareness may enter DT’s mind through some form of osmosis.

Thank you, Crime Stoppers, for reminding me that kids cross the streets during the shool year. If I’m ever in Nappingville I’ll remember that you never see kids cross the streets during summer vacation.

Here’s a bit of actual crime-stopping advice, from Chapter 9 of “The Autobiography of Malcolm X.” Malcolm X based this on his own experiences as a burglar:

“I can give you a very good tip if you want to keep burglars out of your house. A light on for the burglar to see is the very best means of protection. One of the ideal things is to leave the bathroom light on all night. The bathroom is one place where somebody could be, for any length of time, at any time of night, and he would be likely to hear the slightest strange sound. The burglar, knowing this, won’t try to enter. It’s also the cheapest possible protection. The kilowatts are a lot cheaper than your valuables.”

I’m sure he meant this to apply to houses where the bathrooms have an outside window.

So Duckworth is buried right next to the building of the corporation that he founded. Does this mean that Bill Gates, when his time comes, will be laid to rest by the Microsoft building in Redmond, CA?

Mwahahahaha! Tigger, you used the words “Tracy” and “clue” in the same sentence! Thanks for the laugh!

Maybe Mrs. D’Bucketkicker told Doofus something during one of his interminable visits to the mansion. But Locher hasn’t shown the readers what is going on. In any proper crime mystery, the readers are shown the clues so they can play detective themselves.

Saturday showed Doofus looking astonished as he read the paper. Today we saw him speaking with Double Header. Maybe, in between, he decided that D-cubed is alive and in hiding (and doing a lousy job of it), and his alleged widow is part of his cunning plan to ruin his enemies. Or maybe he saw something that convinced him that the ex-partners killed D-cubed, and he is astonished that he guessed right. He may even be thinking “Revenge From The Grave? That is so reminiscent of the lyrics from Black Sabbath’s Iron Man! Could this be a subtle clue that D’Cluckworth is really Tony Stark! After all they’re both mysterious rich inventors!”

One thing is certain: Doofus is not going to get a confession out of them with this direct approach. “You are accused of two non-violent felonies and you think you can beat the rap! Well, confess to a murder or you’ll go to Club Fed!”

Does Macy have jurisdiction on fraud and deceptive practices? That seems to be up to a jury, not a flatfoot doofus who can’t find it with both hands! Macy surely has some shred of evidence somewhere before he accused those guys.

But don’t bet any of your hard-earned cash on it!
