Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for September 27, 2010
Transcript:
Cathy: I can close my eyes and see our future exactly, Irving. Irving: What do you think it will be? Cathy: It's not what I think. It's what I know. Irving: You can't know. Cathy: Yes I can! Some things women just know. It's female intuition... Precognition... A deep connection to my creator... ...I just KNOW. I know EXACTLY what will be! Irving: WHERE WERE YOU ALL THOSE TIMES I WAS TRYING TO BET ON FOOTBALL?!!

I just heard Cathy is “retiring” in a week or so, any truth? I know I’m probably late to the party, buy I usually read Cathy in my local paper.

I hope it’s leading up to something good. This must be the hardest thing for someone to do – be creative in counting down to the ending of your life’s work and have the world watch and judge. I’m glad it’s not me.

She has seen the future, and it is gadgets and shoes.

Cathy will be missed. We wish her a long and enjoyable retirement!

I can’t believe that Cathy is retiring and will miss reading her very much. My mother and I have laughed til we were crying at all the things we have in common with Cathy and her mother. In fact we have coined the phrase “it’s a Cathy moment” rather than a “senior moment”. I’ve just recently found the on-line comics and have enjoyed you everyday for just a couple of weeks. It’s just my luck that you are retiring. I’m dreaming of the day in the not too far future that I will retire. I will be looking for a book of your comic strips to be able to have a daily fix of “Cathy”!
Best wishes.

Why not start over at the beginning? If it’s good enough for Peanuts and For Better or For Worse, it’s certainly good for Cathy!

Considering what a jerk Irving is, I am thinking it ends in marriage counseling.

Marriage & in-laws did her in.

Irving is a dunce!
Sorry to see her end. She should go to the begining.!

I have watched Kathy from the beginning in our newspaper and now on GoComics. I will truly miss her antics and Irvings typical maleness. Good luck and hope you rerun from the beginning as others have done.

oh Cathy I was hoping you and Irving would decide to have a “later in life.” Baby! It would have been fun to go through the pregnancy with you! Your mom becoming a grandma would be priceless. My daughter and I have enjoyed our friendship with you so much. Women are allowed to change their minds so we continue to hope that you will decide that you are too young for retirement. We will miss you so much. You have become part of our family!

Kathy needs to have eight kids like Kate, and then have camera crews come in to start a reality television series. Irving could have an affair and get divorced, and Kathy would suddenly lose all the weight she carried all those years and be a real star. “Lookin good in that bikini, Kath!”

I’ve had “Cathy” in my life for so long, it will be like losing a friend. I hope this subscription service starts her strip over from the beginning so we can enjoy her wit for many many years to come. You will be sorely missed Cathy!!!
summerdog86 about 14 years ago
Wow! I’ve forgotten how different Cathy looked in the old days. (my own books are buried someplace in the house) And Andrea and Irving are in the very first strips, too!
Thanks, jglynn.

Cathy, before you leave the comic strip pages, add two cats to go with your two dogs.
Gypsy214 about 14 years ago
Irving doesn’t realize that Cathy couldn’t have helped him with the football bets - her intuition only works on things she cares about!
I too will miss Cathy - have been a fan from the very beginning and became more of a fan when my life got to where it bore great similarities to hers!

oh Cathy I have grown up reading you over my 50 years..I will miss my best girl

Please have a publishing company put out some more books with the comic strips! We have missed so much in between 2000 and now with only the marriage of Cathy and Irving.
Shame on Andrews & McMeel for not publishing the strips during those years. I missed a lot of laughs by not being able to read them.

suicide induced by constant review of relationships … she should never have married Irving!

Thanks for sharing the link to the first week of Cathy… I’ll have to check it out. I wonder if gocomics will restart from the beginning… do they have that option?
JosePeterson about 14 years ago
I’d encourage Mrs. Guisewite to publish all her work in volumes as is being done for Peanuts, Dick Tracy, Family Circus, etc.!

When our local paper dropped Cathy, I dropped my local paper. Now I am devastated Cathy is retiring. Surely you have a few more strips left in you! I felt Cathy was a reflection of my life in so many ways, and wondered if sometimes I wasn’t being “followed” because the strips came so close to my own experiences. I cut many of the strips out and laminated them! You will be dreadfully missed!

Ditto, Erica Forrest.

I just recently ‘retired’ & can’t see WHAT to do now!! Cathy could write an advice column!! This strip has added so much to my life!! I was validated in my love of cooky dough!! In a closet full of clothes I can’t part with, still have nothing to wear, but the ones I DO wear are piled on a chair! But when my marriage of 25 yrs ended back in ‘89 when she & Irving were going thru a break-up, Charlene’s last panel to Cathy changed my life! - ” He’s not the person you were pretending he was.”!!! Start running the strip all over again!! Let Cathy G enjoy relaxing!!
RinaFarina about 14 years ago
@Lindafoh, I second the motion! Let’s start Cathy all over again! Even Haiku Ewe (whom you may not have heard of, but I loved it) ended and is now being rerun.
I felt awful when our local paper dropped Cathy. So I was delighted to discover that I could find her on the Internet. Sure, she had become repetitive, but what she was doing was worth repeating. Don’t take her away from me, PLEEEZE…..

I will miss you so much! We’re the same age, have the same lives, dog, and husbands…let’s do lunch!
