Hey, put ours up (at the wife’s insistence) on the last warm day in November. Of course, had to turn them on at least twice to find the burnt out ones and recheck.

He’s also allowed to amend his list up until Christmas Eve.

Some never come down. It seemed better this year. Didn’t have to fight the Xmas feeling assaulting me this year.

Your rules aren’t necessarily my rules.

My stuff is staging. I want to do something different this year, but my canvas is limiting. Darsan54 : I try my lights before I put them up, but every #@%67* year, I get them up , turn them on, and sure enough some aren’t working.Christmas lights are like being married, it is painfully wonderful.

Actually, Frazz, stop dissing the loopholes! When safety is involved, everyone else can just deal with it!

That’s a rule I can definitely get behind. Maybe I’m just being an old fart, but as far as I’m concerned, Christmas decorations in stores before Halloween is just plain tacky.

We stopped putting up lights when the roof line got dangerously high for our age and physical fitness. My pastor, on the other hand, puts up a wonderful display, but always before Thanksgiving. As a pastor, the Advent season is always extremely busy, so he gets it done while he has time for it.

If I put them up at all this year, it won’t be until the roofers are done!

There’s nothing wrong with keeping a wishlist year round and updating it as appropriate.

The kid sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Lighten up, Frazz.

At the apartments that I live at on Thanksgiving Day they were up and turned on that evening. I do like seeing the lights.

How about this: Gather all the lights into a loose two-foot ball, hang it from your front porch by one wire, plug it in and let it glow. For accent, stick a sign in the yard that says, “Okay, honey, the lights are hung. Please come home.”

Hubby and I traditionally put the Christmas stuff up the Friday after Thanksgiving (since I have the day off). It also provides an excellent excuse to stay FAR away from the malls on Black Friday…

A neighbor fell off his ladder a few years ago while taking down the Christmas lights. He was about 60, certainly not old—and the paramedics couldn’t revive him.

Caulfield thinks he found loopholes in long established custom. Good for him if that entertains him.
