Are we going to have a week of various wedding participants turned 90 degrees from upright? I hate that when they do that. If you have a laptop or a handheld device you can turn it 90 degrees but with a full size 23 inch (58cm) screen with a desktop computer you have to turn yourself 90 degrees and at age 70 that is no longer that easy to do.

Once again, congrats, Mr. Gust!!! Toni saw your dress there in the store, and knew it was the one for her!! Nice work!!!

…And With the combined efforts from yourself and the Evanses, you can now proudly boast a “Phillip Gust original”, and can lay claim to being the “Bob Mackie” of the “Greater Pitts Statistical Area”!

I think there was a “trade off” to be had, here, in showing it this way, in regard to the dimension challenges of the panel.

I believe they were going for a “close up” of the details, and if it were depicted as in yesterday’s, we might not be able to get the effect that this angle would give, as it would have to fit the “height” of the “top and bottom” of the panels, as opposed to being able to see it more closely, using the “length” of the panels…

@Flash GordonYou can save the strip and open it in a picture viewer. On PCs I recommend IRFANVIEW. An L or an R will turn a picture 90 degrees. No contortion necessary.

The dress “translated” from the designer’s rendering to the comic strip rather well, I think. And the more I look at it, the more it looks like something Toni might choose. It isn’t overly fussy, and it has classical elements plus a bit of a “wow” factor. Made up in a good fabric, this would look lovely in real life. Nice job, Philip!

You can purchase a “high quality print” of this strip for $39.95, and then spend the $190. to frame it in black metal, and then hang it anyway you want. Every true fan of this strip should be thrilled to have one of these on the wall. I assume she will be horizontal sometime in the near future, just turned differently. Or maybe not.

While the dress looks nice on Toni, I believe Greg chose the most simply cut and design because it is the easiest to draw. He’d be drawing the same dress for several strips so he chose the simplest dress. There were many other dresses that were better suited for Toni but were probably too much work for Greg. However, since Toni is a simple girl who does not dress anything stylish or fancy, I suppose the dress is another reason it fits Toni. When it’s Luann’s turn, gotta wonder if he will again have a contest and then choose another simple dress? Because Luann definitely is not a simple girl.

The original has a realistic body shape, but this version has that creepy thing they do in Disney cartoons, where the eyes are wider than the waist.

Shocking in a comic featuring adolescent girls struggling with body image.

    .

Mr. Gust did draw a very pretty wedding dress, and Greg has used it successfully with Toni.

    .

However, today’s comic is about as interesting to me as watching an ice cube melt. Perhaps it is more a “female” thing and a lot of female readers will be more excited about today’s comic. Or, perhaps I am just an old, furry-faced curmudgeon and all the other readers of the comic will really be excited about today’s comic. I do not really know.

I don’t think the seeing the bride before the wedding is a big deal, but the bridegroom seeing her in her dress for the first time IS a big deal! I wish it hadn’t been in a back changing room, which is anti-climatic. I prefer the aisle as it is a true entrance for her to be seen by her groom, but even if they had seen each other outside, or in a nicer room would have been more special. Of course, for Brad, it will be special no matter what :>)

As the dress is the culmination of a contest, it’s sort of a necessity that it receive at least one “Spotlight Shot” – I doubt any of the other strips between now and the 11th will be presented in a similar format.

    .

I’m not sure how much cartoonists earn these days, the heady times of high newspaper circulation are long gone.

Probably not as much as most people think, though.

“………Sorry, but that is clueless. The person voted as the winner needed to be announced on a weekday as well as Sunday for people who get only weekday comics and for ones who get only Sunday comics………..”.“…….No, he definitely drew today’s strip. Compare it to yesterday’s: in yesterday’s, Toni is walking, and her left hand is slightly swaying. Today, Toni is standing still and her left hand is resting against her side………Plus, as others pointed out, the contest winner’s Sunday paper may not include the “Luann” strip, hence today’s “sideways” panel………”

“………Actually, according to today’s FB post, it is as I was postulating above, two things: One, to give Mr. Phillip Gust his proper credit, and Two, to give everyone a chance to see the full length gown, close up (given the dimensional challenges of doing so, in the space of a comic panel, while properly revealing its details, at the same time)……”-—————————————————————————————————————-
