I actually saw 2 people in the break room at work doing this once – sitting at the same table together, texting each other instead of talking. All I could think was that they must be saying something inappropriate about someone else.
What I find amusing about this strip is that I have had this conversation with my daughter, minus the texting part. At this age that is a pretty standard conversation. Betty is smart to use the technology to keep in touch with her boy. (and we know from the strip that they have had actual verbal talks with one another)
So Betty keeps texting him, but it’s only a bad thing when HE*S got a phone at the table?Right…
And yeah, i know she’s got an excuse—she’s trying to teach him manners. But instead of coming with excuses for duing a rude thing, she should simply not do the rude thing to begin with.

This kid is a spoiled brat. He shouldn’t be allow to have his phone at meal times. The parents should begin with an example.

Well said Jack, sometimes the strips are so “real” people have a hard time separating comic strip from reality
