Also, as a few of the posts towards the end of yesterday had brought up the recently deceased, actor George S. Irving passed just a few days ago, at the age of 94 – You might be unfamiliar with the name, but you’d recognize his voice as narrator of The Underdog Show, and as the hot-headed Heat Miser in the Rankin/Bass animagic holiday classic, The Year Without A Santa Claus.
I’d bet that this type of sequence was thought up by Joe. I know he has great love for some of the old features and this way he gets to draw them while getting paid for it. Tell him I remember ROG
I know this is Dick Tracy’s strip, but it would have been nice if The Spirit could have been introduced in a solo action scene first, then met up with Commissioner Dolan, then made the jump to Tracyville.
.
Sure, Mike is anxious to cut to the chase, but this feels just a wee bit like an info dump. :)
Here’s the Heat Miser song, as performed by George S. Irving, kinda sorta had to post it here …

I’d have to check, but Paul Coker was probably responsible for the art design, and Heat Miser bears a more-than-passing resemblance to … George S. Irving!
Good use of the two-panel format once again. Tracy meets The Spirit. The “likes” indicate that I’m not alone in approving of this bold crossover. Looking forward to what Team Tracy has in store for us.
Once again, the Comic Heroes come through with the right answer. So Ebony got sent off to school, and Eisner replaced him with Sammy. I stand enlightened.
I’m not trying to be a jerk here, but can we not discuss politics here? And especially the recent presidential election? Please? I get more than enough of it on just about every Internet site I visit, and I like to come here to get away from it. What in the world does Donald Trump have to do with Dick Tracy? Thanks.
Another crossover with a character that has no real connection to the Tracy strip & which I always thought was horrible in concept & action. Are Joe & Mike that bored with Tracy?
I’m fairly new here, don’t post much, but have a lot of respect for many of the amazing people here. So I was excited to see the comments for the historic meeting between Dick Tracy and The Spirit. But having to wade through the morass of political posts is definitely taking the bloom off the rose.
Politics are divisive and much more so in the age of social media we find ourselves in, where every political decision is purported to be life or death. It’s off the topic of discussion, so everyone please leave the politics out and put your political views elsewhere where the audience may be more appreciative.
At the danger of wandering off topic in another direction, now Debbie Reynolds has died. It’s a bad week for show biz. (Nothing at all to do with politics, I’m quite sure.)
Hmm. Looks as though Tracy, or someone whom he is representing (such as Chief Patton) sent for Commissioner Dolan, though not previously acquainted. The Spirit and Sammy tag along as a bonus set of crimefighters. How alike Tracy and The Spirit are garbed! —Just that one favors yellow and the other, blue….

Can’t help but think that super-cop Dick Tracy should hold a dim view of vigilantes like The Spirit, no matter how well intentioned he might be.

Well, earlier this year Dick Tracy joined forces with Fearless Fosdick (in a dream sequence, perhaps, but still . . .).
Now, Tracy meets THE Spirit.
Interesting.

Joe & Shelley have ensured that Commissioner Dolan has a twinkle in his eye today, which is nice.

Was kind of hoping that the Commissioner’s daughter, Ellen, would be in tow as well.

For the record, Snow Miser was voiced by the late comic actor Dick Shawn.

Here’s another 2016 exit, which I’ve only just heard about …
.
Actor Joseph Mascolo, who’d portrayed the villainous ‘Stefano DiMera’ on the NBC soap opera DAYS OF OUR LIVES, on December 7th, at the age of 87.
.
His character, in-story, was nicknamed “The Phoenix,” for the many times he’d returned from, or otherwise cheated death.
.
[ Even among soap characters, who have a knack for limbo-ing beneath the reaper’s scythe, DiMera was an accomplished master at the craft. ]
.
Only a few months ago, I’d caught an episode where Stefano returned as an hallucination, ‘haunting’ the woman who murdered him.
.
Random ‘Days Of Our Lives’ related anecdote here …
.
A few years ago, as I was settling into my seat on a plane, getting ready to head for home, the following announcement came over the intercom …
.
“This is your Captain, Stefano DiMera, and your co-pilot, Roman Brady …”
.
Recognizing both names as fictional characters from the aforementioned soap opera, I burst out laughing.
.
Don’t think anyone else aboard the plane got the joke.

Sure enough, there’s a Clyde Crashcup cartoon where he ‘invents’ the telephone, but I haven’t been able to find an upload of it.
