And how would this old question affect the insurance payout? Do you get double indemnity if it didn’t make a sound?

There would be sound waves, but for there to be sound, someone has to be there to translate the waves into sound.

Try not to confuse “sound”, with “hearing”…

Not The Sound of Music, perhaps. But a sound anyway.

This reminds me of the old joke: If a man talks in the forest, and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

If a tree falls in a forest, is it a forest anymore?

The only reason it made a sound, was because BC was there to hear it.

“Things exist independent of any ‘human’ ability to hear, interpret, respond to the event. Geesh!”

    .

Things do but somethings aren’t things, they are interpretations or are based on definitions.

If a sound is a vibration, then all vibrations are sounds.

Not all vibrations are sounds because there are ears incapable of hearing them.

Therefore not all vibrations are sounds.

    .

It depends on the definition and interpretation.

    .

There is no beauty without someone capable of perceiving it, otherwise it may just be a sunset.

There is no cold without someone capable of feeling it, otherwise it is simply a temperature.

    .

The follow up which has been mentioned is one of who or what must be there to perceive it.

Does an earthworm count? Why or why not?

Is there a level of consciousness required? Why or why not?

    What is consciousness, anyway?

How do we really know anything?

How do we know how we know is right?

How do we know how we know how we know is right?

How far does this recursion have to go before it falls apart?

    .

    How do we know that?

    .

    Is philosophy really worth anything?

    .

    How do we define worth?

Does worth exist independent of people?

    How do we know?

    .

It all depends on whether you’re using “lunch” as a noun or a verb.

In this case since it is used in conjunction with “for,” it is used as a noun.
