I was driving with a large fleet of perfectly synced snow removal trucks, graders and equipment a couple days ago. It was very interesting to watch. Then it suddenly dawned on me; "What happens if one of them have to go to the bathroom?’
Here, they usually call a snow day when we get a foot or so of snow. Had a 2-hour delay yesterday because it was below zero. That happens at 8400’ in Colorado…
Here in Chattanooga they cancel school if there’s a flurry in the forecast. Everyone makes a mad rush to the grocery and hardware stores for food and emergency supplies. One inch of snow shuts down schools. Two inches shuts down the colleges and most businesses. More than two inches, and we apply for federal aid as a disaster area.
Actually, they close schools to avoid deaths due to hypothermia from kids dropped off the bus at the end of a driveway with no parent home, or buses sliding of the road or breaking down, or driving conditions won’t do anything but get worse.
You all are forgetting the trade-off for snow days (as is Calvin): the length of the school year is extended by the number of snow days taken, so Calvin isn’t really getting a free day off from school; he’s simply delaying having to go to school that day until closer to the end of the school year. Think of it as “borrowing” a day off, only having to “pay it back” sometime later on.

Actually, snow that is waist deep on a 6-year old is still deep enough for them to call off school.

Yep, 6 inches of snow isn’t all that much, except for cities that never get any at all.

There are 2 reasons kids love snow:
1) They can build snowmen, snow-women and any other snow thing they can think of.
2) The schools close.
