“Just kidding” is a really weak defense for behaviour like that. As if the phrase magically absolves you from any assault or threatening gestures you make towards another.
“Dude, just kidding! Can’t you take a joke?” Humour like that doesn’t exactly tickle me.
I’m assuming that “the crisis” may involve the missing persons posters we’ve seen at the beginning of this story arc. I am assuming that most of the missing have been harvested.
SERIOUSLY…September 19, 2016 strip: “THERE IS NO MUTAGENIC VIRUS.”
NO ONE HAS MENTIONED THIS SINCE. Is this REALLY something everyone can ignore? Sure, the ship might have been lying…but really? Doctor Chase? Aaron Marx? Professor Mallard? No one even mentions it?
Hmmm…the fact that Walt seems to be able to impose consequences suggests that he has some official capacity. He may have won the election or he may still retain his post as Mayor or possibly just that he has the police chief’s ear but he is not powerless.
Odds are Walt is still Mayor (at least) or maybe more. The crisis is obviously the missing individuals, but if Jacob did not acquire power legally, I wonder if he might be stirring up mischief to create public distrust in the current administration… hmmm ;-)
Walt is certainly taking a more, shall we say “hands on” approach to city administration these days. I guess presiding over mass funerals could nudge a fella in that direction… ;-)
Who wants to bet the crisis involves the food supply reaching an all-time low because the elevators are still damaged from Wally and Holly’s “departure”. That means hardly anyone has been able to go forage for beans. And, of course, there’s the matter of the Topsiders with their satellites and killing sprees. And with no foraging, that means that there might not be a lot of beans in the pantry. And let’s not forget Jacob Jackrabbit and his policy of “embracing our animal forms”. If you’re an anthro, that means you’re either predator, or prey. And so far, it looks like someone’s hungry for pork.
Walt may not be Mayor, but I’m sure he still has some influence with the local Magistrate. While Jacob’s attitude is one of embracing their anthro abilities, it would most likely be that what benefits you gain from the change shouldn’t be denied, but accepted and used. It is like learning most of your inner demons are really allies.
“Can’t you take a joke?” Nice excuse. My answer would be, “Not really, but I can take a joker and knock him upside the head.” Never start something that will finish you.
I think the crisis is the one anticipated by Marx and the Oracle that Jackrabbit was supposed to deal with for the greater good. It may or may not have anything to do with the disappearances. No one’s running around in a panic, so I assume it’s a long-term economic or social crisis and not a rampaging monster.
@Darwinskeeper & Robert Nowall – Can we all just keep politics out of this one strip? I know I do post a lot of Political stuff on other strips, but this one is a little sacred in that political chatter is very rare here.
It’s too bad she didn’t have a zip gun. Although I’m sure she wouldn’t have wanted to shoot anyone who can blame her when her species keep going missing and then she gets chased by baying wolf men? Joke, indeed…

Looks like Walt still has some authority in Endtown. Hopefully he is still mayor.

Given that Jacob is a rabbit, I’m not sure he’d go so far as to embrace the carnivores eating your fellow beings who are herbivores.

Let’s see if Aaron Marx chooses our “smarter than the average Mayor” to be Endtown’s newest hero.

best way to find the missing pigs, line up everybody and smell their breath until you find one that reeks of bacon!

It’s 6/1/2020 and there are riots all over the country. It’ll be a little difficult to keep politics out of it.
