Dean: Man on man, it's really coming down! Dean: Maybe they'll let us out early! Heart: Are you kidding me?! We shouldn't even be going to school in the first place! Heart: the fun part is having school canceled when you're still in your pajamas, half asleep under the covers! Dean: True. I guess we already did the hard stuff.

Even Calvin dreamed of having his mother coming into his room with an extra blanket when it was cold out, but she yelled at him to get out of bed or he’ll miss the bus.

In this case, I agree with Heart, when you wake up and it’s snowing like that, it’s nice when you don’t even have to get dressed b/c they already cancelled school. That said, it’s a different kind of fun when it doesn’t start snowing until you’re at school, and then they let you out early. Definitely a fun surprise!

Times have certainly changed. When I was a kid the only reasons school was canceled was if they could not get the buses started. Didn’t much matter how much snow there was or really how cold it was. Now it seems if it drizzles outside they are called off.

Well, nowadays we don’t want schoolbuses slipping and sliding across the road with our children in them so school is called more easily than in the past.Of course, I live in a state where schools close down for hurricanes, not snow..

Even in the 60s when I went to school, there were regional differences in how they dealt with weather. In Illinois, from 3rd grade on, I don’t recall schools ever being closed on account of weather. On the other hand, we’d come from Louisiana, and there they sent us home early one day when there was just a dusting of sleet.

One year we ended up staying at school until our parents came and got us because it was snowing so hard and had accumulated so quickly.

When I lived in upstate NY, they would only cancel school due to extreme storms and blizzards. Now that we live in south central PA, they sometimes have 2 hour delays depending on the conditions.

Speaking of “hard stuff”, I’m drunk.
