Imagine the agonies of leap year!

This is one I’d print out – of GoComics let us!

Makes perfect sense, and I hate “spring forward” even worse than the toon dudes.

Do they ever forget to wind it?

Losing an hour is worse than gaining one and it is most unnatural and why we suffer. The optimum healthy person takes a minimum of 2 weeks to adjust. It can take me a month or longer to adjust.

True then, still true these 20 years later. “But we’ve always done it this way” — which has to be the lamest excuse ever!

Anybody who really wants to bring this country together, bridging all political divides in the process, will advocate getting rid of this misbegotten comedy of errors once and for all!

I hate DST, and it looks like I am not alone. Just a case of governments thinking they can control everything.

I’ll speak for the underdog here. It’s nice having more light in the evening.

Plus, having less light in the morning means I can sleep in later.

The clocks change on our “Mothers’ Day” 26th. The modern romanticised view of the Druids is a Victorian invention just like the short kilt.

I’m pushing for 1/2 hour change one way or the other and we never do it again!

I’ve heard that golfers love DST.

So guys in Egypt, South America, and other countries turned their observatories at the same time? Cool!!

Combine the November change over with a low pressure weather system plus rainy, cold weather and the ‘misery effect’ can take days to pass.

Last year California voted (well the legislature did) on a measure to eliminate DST. It came close to passing. Maybe next time. Like many other things, once California does it then the rest of the country may follow along.

Stonehenge was re-designed and changed twice during it’s thousand-year building history, according to the scholars. Imagine being the workers on that job. “Hey, sorry, guys, but those stones need to be shifted five feet to the left.”

Once again my state has a bill on the docket proposing to do away with Daylight Savings Time. Once again I suspect it will not get passed.

I was fortunate to live in Arizona, for about 25 years, where we didn’t have DST to contend with ( except on the Navajo Res. which did ). Florida was a major PIA when I lived there, because they did.

Thankfully, living down here in Ecuador, I don’t have to worry about springing forward and falling back !

Here’s a laugh. In Hawaii, the state that has the earliest sunset in the summertime, there is no DST. However, Alaska, where parts of the state the sun shines throughout the night, DOES have DST. Now isn’t that senseless?

What I’m getting at is why DST was enacted. It was to increase production during wartime while saving energy for lighting during WW I and overheating of machinery during WWII. There was no DST between the wars. DST was kept on after WWII to build up arms against the “Soviet Menace” and to save money incurred by the cost of the new invention, air conditioning. It was cheaper to send people home in the heat of the day to swelter there than to have them work even one hour later in comfort. Nowadays computers need air conditioning 24/7 so there is no cost savings in sending people home early.

DST would make sense if it was done as a North/South observance. The North doesn’t need it because the sun sets so late anyway. The South could use it because of the sun setting earlier down there. Of course that would make for eight time zones in the summertime. Let’s see how the airlines would work that schedule.

This is my last DST before retiring. After that it isn’t going to matter to me what the clock indicates.

We could just be like China which has one time zone for the whole country. China is slightly smaller than the US but not that much smaller. Can you imagine the howls from people if we did that?

I think those Druids would be very disappointed in me. I never adjust my sun dial.

Jet lag must be absolutely unbearable for some people.

“Jet lag” isn’t as bad as DST because you’re moved not just in time, but in geography and sun position that matches the time. DST, you move your clock, but NOT your biological clock keyed to that sun position, thus much more difficult to “adjust”.

Move Eastern Time to the Mississipi River and I’d be fine with no Time Change. As it is, being on the ‘wrong’ side of the Eastern / Central time zone, the end of day light comes too soon on Central Time. Don’t get me wrong, I’m getting by on Central Time….. ;)

The Uniform Time Act of 1966. After 51 years you would think we would have at least adjusted to it.

Ya know what….there are 24 hours in the day (except for those who track milliseconds), and just so many of them have daylight, depending on the time of year. Most of the developed world operates on a 24/7 schedule regardless; and the developing world doesn’t have time for such nonsense. We should just cut it out.

Reading through these comments, I find it amazing (and seemingly a sign of the times) that people who don’t like – or simply feel inconvenienced by – some aspect of their lives start in with the undercurrents of either “stupid government” or “government conspiracy.” We are indeed fracked . . .

I’m in Canuckistan. My phone and my computer switched over but no news stories on DST. I don’t know what time it really is.
