Reminds me about a little over a year ago, when instead of receiving a call, I was the one who had to make THE call informing family and friends of the death of a dear one—my wife !
My mother and grandmother always called the obituaries in the local newspaper, the Irish Sports Page. It was the first thing that the Irish would read to see if they knew anyone who’d died. That page was immediately followed by the required reading of the Police Arrests – for the same reason. Those pages , along with an occasional perusal of the Engagements,Wedding & Anniversary page, was the foundation and fodder for the daily gossip.

If you are over 50, you have probably been like John, not expecting the unexpected. What will they do now, in the light of this, I wonder?

If somebody’s passing makes it darker here, imagine how much lighter it is where they have gone!

At 78 I’ve lost many relatives, classmates and friends. (But it looks like all the PIAs are going to live forever!)
