The Green Hornet comes to town tracking down a dangerous criminal. One that starts moving out or killing the local riff-raff then….Just my idea, chipping in…
Blue team, yellow team; if as suggested above the Green Hornet shows up, green team. This is getting to be a very colorful comic strip!
And, more importantly, Tracy just got his “’costume” for the cosplay convention, at which he/we will meet Svengoolie, who often is a Celebrity Guest at such affairs, at least in this area of the country….
It’s nice to see things back to normal, for the MCU, and the comment board here, where Avenger is throwing out the troll seed, and will no doubt, attract a nice flock.
TSULL2121 A few days ago, you said that a big part of your objection to Mysta was in the claim that the DNA used to create her came from the wreckage of the car bomb that killed Moon Maid. I reread that part of the story, and realized you were right.
Considering it was said by Dr. Sale, who was claiming he cloned Moon Maid and was later proven to be a liar, con man, and thief, he was undoubtedly lying about the source of the DNA, too. He was also fronting for Mr. Bribery, and with his resources, stealing one (or just part) of a sample would have been possible.
Where’d it come from? Considering that Moon Maid was the first extra-terrestrial to come out in the Tracyverse, I’m sure she donated blood samples for scientific research. And while she married Junior on the moon, she may have had to give a blood sample back in Tracyville, (and even undergo a civil ceremony) to make the marriage legally binding on earth.
Samples can be kept for a long time. Tissue samples taken in 1910 were used in 2007 to try to determine the identity of remains found in the basement of Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen in London. Scientific testimony in his trial identified them as coming from Crippen’s wife, and he was convicted of her murder and hung. Ten years ago, some of the tissue was tested for a DNA connection to Crippen’s wife, and the researchers found it not only wasn’t her DNA, but that the remains weren’t from a woman.
In a way, I don’t know why Sam says that Tracys is back because he didn’t really go anywhere. He had a dinner party at home one day and when Bonnie went looking for him at HQ, she was told he wasn’t in yet that day. Thee wasn’t really any indication that he was “away.”
Those of you who mentioned that the reason for the “Yellow Mask” arrow box is because the original art is B&W, and Team Tracy wanted all their readers to get the joke, are probably right. But don’t forget, in addition to that, there is a strong tradition in Tracy, started by Chester Gould, to label things in the strip. MAD magazine had fun with that, labeling dozens of items in every panel, in their parodies.
I still wish that P’Gell had shown up as a bidder. P’Gell and the Dragon Lady….that might have been an interestering combination. Also the "Yellow Mask was an early villain in the Superman Radio series. He had ordered the Wolf to destroy the Silver Clipper of the Western Railroad company and because, Clark Kent was involved in preventing that, tried to destroy the Daily Planet building.
The joke with the yellow mask works because all the characters know that Dick Tracy wears a yellow hat and coat, and we the readers know it too. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. But here is an interesting thought about Dick Tracy’s famous yellow hat and coat: I’m not sure that Chester Gould thought of them as being yellow. He said in interviews that his idea was to make Tracy a modern equivalent of Sherlock Holmes. Holmes dressed in the fashion of the day. Neither he nor Tracy wore clothes that would make them stand out from the crowd – after all, the original title of the strip was Plainclothes Tracy. In a 1947 story, Influence gets the drop on Tracy in some way, and stuffs his coat into a stream where a girl named Misty Waters finds it. She refers to it as a “camel’s hair” coat. From what I’ve been able to research, they are basically shades of brown. She goes to some lengths to discover who the coat belongs to; she doesn’t immediately say “Oh this coat is yellow, it must be Dick Tracy’s coat.” I believe the basic colors of the Tracy strip came about because of the limitations on color printing in newspapers, but it became a “thing”, much like Holmes’ Iverness Cape. I remember an episode of “Dobie Gillis” where his beatnik friend refers to “Dick Tracy’s big yellow coat”. So it’s here to stay, and Tracy would not be Tracy without the hat and coat. Gould put him in a short jacket and baseball cap for a while in the 70s, but it didn’t feel right. (Just some random thoughts from a Tracy fan.)

Trying to remember if the original design for “The Crimson Avenger” was a red hat, coat, and mask.
