I’m worried about my sister, Martha. It was 3 years ago she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. When we saw her on Memorial Day weekend 3 years ago, she looked so bad and she was so weak, we (her brothers and sisters) didn’t think she’d see another Christmas. Or maybe not even the fourth of July. But she fought the cancer and never complained. She went through chemo and everything and she was in remission a while, then she’d get worse, then better again. Still, we were told she had a aggressive form of cancer which would keep coming back until it would finally take her life. There was little to no hope of getting rid of it completely. She sounded well when I called her on her birthday (I can’t get up to see her a lot since it’s 4 hours one way to see her) on March 7th, but now she has gotten worse again. We have been told the cancer has spread throughout her entire body – including in her brain. They won’t do any more chemo on her. They’re just trying to keep her comfortable, whatever that means. Still, she keeps saying that she is “fine”. But the nurse, while saying they can’t guess how long Martha has to live, did say that it will probably be 6 months at the most. It could be much sooner than that. I’m feeling sad a lot these past few days since I found out Martha is so sick. The nurse said as long as she keeps eating, Martha may keep living. But once she doesn’t want to eat anymore, that will be the beginning of the end. Martha told my other sister, Mary that she would prefer we don’t go up there to see her until she is closer to death. We are torn between honoring that wish and wanting to see her anyway. For now, we are honoring her request, though. Just one more thing I need to say….

Answering you here and not at the Philly cop strip as I figure this is more your home base. Is your local paper afraid Crunchy will say something unprintable ?

A catitude post: do you have a cat that makes you feel grateful when it allows you to pet it? (thankfully my kitty isn’t like this!)
