@Mordy (Re: “Captain Urgent’s moment stealing”:) You won’t get too much argument from me on that!

@JPW (Re: “message marked urgent”:) But that’s the whole point…“Captain Urgent” seems to always say “It’s a big deal, this time!”. I was making reference to his ‘nasty habit’, in this regard (though he did say he will take steps to ‘remove the flaking’, but we’ll see). He did it so much, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has that message or mark automatically saved , to send to Toni.

@WARHAMSTER52 (Re: “Freeberg”:) You’re welcome! One of my all time favorites! (I only wished we could still embed videos here, and not just ‘copy and paste’ the url/address…lots of people used to share tons of great stuff on the forums!)
It is an instinct to get rid of parasites/fleas/lice/whatever. My cat rolls in the dirt too even though he has no fleas. Or maybe that is why he doesn’t have them.
Horses will do the same thing. Getting ready for a show you dare not turn him out or you will have a green (if on grass) or mud (if on dirt) colored horse.
Typical dog behavior, however, there’s a weird thing happening. Luann is one of the few strips where characters age, but Puddles has been around a long time and shows no sign of aging

I’ve always wondered why dogs have such a strong need to roll in the dirt right after a bath or wet from rain or swimming in the pool. It is not about being bathed and smelling different…it is about getting wet. Don’t tell me it is instinct because rolling in the dirt when wet make their fur matted and the dirt particles stay stuck in the matted fur, leading them to scratch themselves like crazy and pulling on matted fur is painful – at least for furry breeds. That behavior goes against what is best for them. I don’t think bears roll in dirt after catching fish in the river. I’ve seen tiger shows playing in a pool with water and they jumped onto the dirt and they did not roll around in the dirt. So, why the dogs do?
Over on that social networking site the other day I saw a video of a golden lab who just relished rolling and wallowing in genuine wet, oozy mud! Puddles may share some genes….

You know a dog is getting dirty when he’s rolling in the pink dirt.

Perfumes and scented shampoos smell terrible to a dog’s nose.

When he gets done, he’ll probably eat a dead bug or his own deuce. To think, they have sensitive noses.

Uh, Luann. Your dog’s not a model who needs primping. That’s human stuff.

Is it depicted in many stories (some that I write) and cartoons that dogs don’t like to smell clean?

Newly washed things have a tendency to collect dirt. When it rains, it is likely to rain.
