The only time people complain about the electoral system is when their candidate lost. People need stop thinking a presidential election as one election. It’s 50 separate elections, and it’s winner take all, just like with any election.

Could have just gone with the one, except it was too open to interpretation, unless one defines reinterpreting the single commandment as jack-assery, naturally.

If there were a law against jackassery, then the entire population of the country would be incarcerated. We all do it from time to time. It’s just that some of us are so much better at it and make it a way of life.

@Varnes: many people live like all the Commandments are suggestions.

My favorite ten commandments comic strip was a Frank and Ernest from many years ago. A Moses character is holding the tablets, with “thank you for not sinning” written across the two of them. He looks up and says, “Look, I know these people. You’re going to have to be a lot tougher than this.”

If you don’t like the electoral college, then change the Constitution. The Democrats had their best chance in 20 years to do this. Instead they pushed the ACA.

Interesting all the people who CLAIM to be “Good Christians” and CLAIM to follow the 10 Commandments with one breath, and in the next breath shout “We need to KILL all the Muslims to end terrorism!”. Isn’t there something in there about “Thou shall not kill”?? Or are they just applicable when THEY want them to be?? Just askin’…

The purpose of the electoral system is to make sure LA, NYC, and other urban utopias cannot rule the entire country just by themselves. Communities comprised of majorities who actually work for a living and pay the taxes should also have a say.

Many years ago I read a science-fiction story in which humans landed on a planet where everybody got along with each other. Turned out that they were able to get by with only 2 laws: “Don’t give offense” and “Don’t take offense too easily”. (I suspect they may have had quite extensive commentary on those commandments, but it was only a short story, and they didn’t get into all of that.)

George Carlin had a routine where he trimmed the Commandments down to 2:

    1) Always be fair and honest with your sexual partner

    2) Don’t kill people unless they really, really deserve it

I’m always amused by the fact that Chosen People, according to their own testaments, while preaching adherence to the Laws, were the most bloodthirsty lot ! They burned, pillaged, and destroyed everything in their path in the name of Yahweh and conquest.

So much for the Shalt Not Kill , Shalt Not Steal and Shalt Not Covet commandments !

The true jackassery was in letting the political parties choose the nominees for president. Look where that got us.

Awww man, had a busy day and missed the fun these bring. :(

Probably said it before, and may likely repeat this thought, any judge, politician, heck anyone who wants to post the 10 Commandments anywhere, public or private, must have to adhere to ALL 10. If not, they should not whine about it when we make fun of them, and perhaps occasionally hold them accountable, for their hypocrisy. Sorry, bucko, do as I say, not as I do, just don’t cut it with me. Maybe the rubes, but not me.

The founding fathers knew that a democratic republic was the least evil of the governmental choices available to them . A pure democracy in the USA would have five cities in the country electing all federal positions. And those five cities today are the worst run cities in the country. Pandering to the electorate just leads to tragedy.
