So here’s a question that I think VB, Gweedo, Jpuzz, Neil, Pequod, Jelly, etc MIGHT have an answer for (my money is on Neil and/or Pequod tho).. since Mike and Joe took over the strip, how many NEW villaiins have they introduced that have stuck around?
I’m not talking about ones that were around for a while then got killed off, I mean the ones they’ve introduced that have had ‘staying power’ and still appear from time to time. And yes this would include the ones who appeared, got captured, and sent to prison (as long as they didn’t die)
Who in their right mind would have issued a Dick Tracy target toy, with Tracy himself smack dab in the middle of the bull’s eye? The first time a kid successfully hit the center of the target, he would have destroyed his hero and ruined the toy! That just seems dumb.
It seems that on some level, BJ considers himself some sort of champion for the “little guy”, and the banks are the big, bad corporations. But, look what he’s saying here – on the next payroll day, he knows there will be lots of cash, so he plans to hit another Paragon Bank. Sure, it’s insured by the federal government, but losing a huge payroll will cause great problems, if not outright harm, to the “little guys” who worked all week and need that paycheck! Tracy need to shut him down.
Hmm. Blackjack’s current gang members—at least the ones we see here in panel 2—are rather a sorry-looking, disappointing lot. Whatever became of the Anthony and Karen from the old strip that Don linked yesterday, who seemed far more interesting individuals (the kind whose backstories we might like to learn)? Blackjack’s ever-growing collection of Dick Tracy memorabilia, toys, gadgets, collectibles, but not yet autographs, seems a little weird for some readers, I guess; but people do indeed get involved in all kinds of collecting that might seem “weird” to outsiders. What I find more striking and individualistic than his (to me perfectly sensible) collection is Blackjack’s flashy and distinctive “gangster” style of dress, from the pin-striped suit and black shirt with red tie to the broad-brimmed hat and the leather (?) gloves….
Not sure what BlackJack is referring to when he’s talking about waiting for “pay day.” Is he talking about stealing some pay rolls? Aren’t most workers these days paid through electronic transfers directly into accounts or with electronic gift cards? Then again, in TracyLand most people still seem to get their news in daily newspapers.

If he follows that pattern Tracy and the MCU will get him and his boys.

Blackjack is very much Tracy’s version of a “Batman ’66” villain.

He missed out on the autographs! He should have been paying closer attention.

“Blackjack waits, among his toys …”

Anyone think that the “Honeymoon” cameo in Panel #3 is foreshadowing her appearance later in this story?

Blackjack’s Personal Diary, 6/23/17:
Dear Diary …
Today, I met ‘Gravel Gertie’ and ‘B.O. Plenty.’ Oh, and ‘Dick Tracy’ again. He’s the Best!
Forgot to get autographs, though.
Oh, well.
Maybe I’ll run into somebody else famous next time …?
Sure hope so!
Sincerely,
Blackjack

Does anyone know – was there actually a Sparkle Plenty playhouse modeled after Sunny Dell Acres, like in panel 3? That’s pretty clever.
