I had to deal with a kid at a camp who was constantly wandering off and it was a nightmare. You are responsible for his safety and you had to watch him all the time. If this is what Axel is like, then it is going to be a long drama camp for Prudence (and maybe Luann).
I want Tiff to somehow bring lots of people at the last second or something, heck even Ellwood bringing actors he wants in his latest movie, Darthouth’s mouth to be part of the camp.
That’s a good Axel impression that Luann is doing…but it’s an even better Andy Capp…
-
Wonder if Pru is imploring Axel, by gently suggesting that should he try to escape, she has his address….and she will just keep sending him ads and stuff in the mail….like scratch off prizes…but she’ll make sure they’ll always say: “Sorry, try again!” ??
No, No! Luann is Ed Sullivan, Fay! Ed Sullivan? The Guy that was always saying “We got a REALLY Big Shew?” Sunday Nights, Everyone GLUED to the Old Black and White TVs? And when the Stones or the Beatles were on, you’d get on the telephones and call your Friends?
Okay, “Telephones,” a communicating device semi-permanently attached to a wall? A device with a ‘dial’ on it?
(SIGH). “DIALS,” a round thing with holes in it that…..,
This is fake as it can be. I ran a theater group once, for kids, and parents used it as a babysitting service. So…I don’t see how they only got two kidlets.
Wow people are so critical. I always have to smile, and say the Serenity prayer over my fellow humans, not to say that does not apply to me as well. I personally like this arc, seeing Luann and Pru doing the warm and loving things they do as well. The two kids are terrific, and I think this will go somewhere. The idea of camp should not just be babysitting. Sometimes it is, but if done well, it can be a great experience for the kids. Many Alan King, for those old enough to remember that brilliant comedian, used to make so much fun of the summer camp experience. He learned that where? He would say the experience helped him to later make a career of comedically recounting the foibles of a kid whose parents shipped him off to summer camp every year. You know what? I was not able to go to go-away summer camp, and I have to admit I wished I had. Theater camp would have been fun too. So let me throw that little note of optimism among all the sad sack naysayers.
Fay – again, a nice kid – looks like she’s wearing nurses’ scrubs, although there’s a slight color difference between pants and shirt. Hope she’s back next week – and that it’s about her opening up and being more expressive. ONE victory at a camp is worth it ALL!
.
Axel – on the other hand – his perennial expression is much like an old boss of mine at a summer job – ALWAYS angry about something! (No matter WHAT!) I admire Pru’s commitment and determination – and let’s hope something good comes of this – but I am NOT hopeful on that end.
Axel’s expression also reminds me of the VERY brief ‘camel’ character from Pearls Before Swine’ Apparently, Stephan Pastis got in in serious hot water for that one as he named the character ‘Ataturk’ – the name is that of the deeply revered founder of the Republic of Turkey. (It was NOT intentional on Pastis’ part).
When I lived in Spain back in the 1960’s, at about the time I was 9, a Spanish family moved in next door, and their daughter, Francisca looked very much like Fay – almost a dead ringer for her. She was the same age I was and she seemed to take delight in trying to chase after me and try to kiss me. Her mom used to joke with my mom that it appeared Francisca had international tastes…
I think what we are witnessing is that while Pru might be a good actress she can’t teach. She reads from a script (??) and when circumstances change so that the script is no longer valid, she doesn’t adjust. But Luann is a natural. By taking Fay’s hand she immediately establishes a rapport and moves on to the exercise.

This thread sure has fallen into an awfully lame phase. Kind of surprising. Usually the Evanses do better.
