Look at the golf bag if you’re having trouble getting this. Two (at least) songs are referenced.

Oh, man. I get it. So I guess I’m no longer a youngster. Sigh. (Ack–I didn’t know that the Grateful Dead did a cover of El Paso, though. So apparently I’m even older than I thought.)

Thanks for pointing that out rpstrong. I didn’t see that but as soon as I saw Rosa’s Cantina I had Marty Robbins singing in my head…….♪ Out in the west Texas town of El Paso ♪

You have to be a Marty Robbins fan, you got Rosies Cantina in the background, Marty Robbins did 2 songs about El Paso - “El Paso” and “El Paso City” which describes him being the reincarnated hero of that song. And “Big Iron” was another song by Marty Robbins about a guy coming into to town hunting for the outlaw Texas Red. Too bad there wasn’t a noose on the tree (“the hanging tree”) or the golfer wasn’t wearing “A white Sports Coat” and if he wins the trophy he can put it “Among his (My) Souveniers” Sorry, couldn’t resist adding on.

It seems to me that White Sport Coat was popular about 1959-1960 and that El Paso became popular shortly afterward - so maybe this was a 50th anniversary salute to Marty Robbins?

“Into the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day. Hardly spoke to folks around him didn’t have too much to say. No one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip. The stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip, big iron on his hip…”
