As I used to write on the top of my Latin tests: " Nemo dat quod non habet " ( You can’t give what you don’t have )

I took six years of Latin ( I count summer school and tutors ) to pass four !

As much as I hated Latin back then, I have to admit, it gave me a great base for learning other Romance languages – French, Spanish and Italian were particularly easy – but I never could master Portuguese.

My motto (if I had one) would be “Veni, Vidi, Cafinatti” — I came, I saw, I drank coffee.

The present regime could use Car Talks motto “Non Impediti Ratione Cogitationis”.

Which means “unencumbered by the thought process”.

I had to copy that from my Car Talk mug.
