I remember watching this old movie from the 80s where this guy was playing poker with an African guy. He had a full house, but the African said he lost, because he had what was called a “Mombassa straight”(or something like that), and it was just a mixture of hearts and diamonds, all even numbers, plus a jack. Apparently, that beats a full house in Africa. :)

Everyone will do anything to win this game…even a unicorn.

It wouldn’t be a story about poker without two pairs of blacks, aces and eights.

But what’s the fifth card.

You can call that hand a unicorn. Four to jack, no pair. (Check out non-standard hands like little dog, big dog, little cat, big tiger…)

I expect kids to make up the rules first.

Round-the-corner (JQKA2, QKA23, or KA234). Blaze (all court cards). Skip-straight (A3579, 2468T, 3579J, 468TQ, 579JK, 68TQA). Four-flush (four—but not five—of a single suit).

Let’s play Dragon Poker. Since I’m facing east on an odd-numbered Tuesday, all of my even-numbered unicorns are wild, except for sixes…
