My brother once gave me a Christmas present packed in a box from an album of Rod McKuen reading his poetry. I wanted to beat his @$$. I don’t remember what the gift was, but I remember it being pretty cool.
I’ve never cared for Whitman Chocolates – I have a more sophisticated chocolate palate. I certainly understand Rat’s response, though, when you are expecting chocolate…..IT BETTER BE CHOCOLATE!
Cartoon-Boy was sort of stretching for it today. Goat’s description in panel 1 of the gift does not really match the Reveal in panel 3, which is forced.
But, hey, it’s Labor Day, and if ever there were a day-laborer, it’s our friendly neigborhoodlum cartoonist….

On top of that, he was pretty much pro-temperance. Maybe a drink or two would have helped him…

Okay, this time Paris was asking for it. It’s like giving your girlfriend a ticket to “a Chippendale show,” and all she gets to see is old furniture.

For once I agree with Rat. I guess it could happen once every 20 years or so. I wonder which one of us will be around 20 years from now?

But how did it taste?

The 1st law of gift-giving…
give what the recipient likes, not what you like.
Goat broke the law…
so Rat threw the book at him.

How do you maintain your quality of humor? It is like hitting .500 in MLB. You are using a “corked” mind.

Goat is very sophisticated, he’s trying to help Rat, but Ratcan’t be helped. Rat is broken and he likes it, ……… a lot.

It could be worse. He could have gotten a sampler of Slim Whitman music.

I didn’t get the joke because I had no idea there were “Whitman” chocolates. First thought was Walt Whitman…

I haven’t head that name in a long time. With references to McKuen and Slim Whitman, I’m starting to get an idea of age range of this group.

Get him a rat trap next time or make him a drink with rat poison in it.
Just a suggestion.

I guess it’s better than a Charles Whitman sampler.
