It appears to be just a sight gag: In the first row of panels, the Dookie Bird is sleeping on Thor’s wheel, when it begins to roll. She is saved from being crushed when the wheel rolls over a hole that is in perfect alignment to her position on the wheel.
In the second row of panels, She begins to sleepwalk, which also saves her from being crushed. Then the wheel runs into a rock and stops—but the bird keeps sleepwalking, and falls off the wheel, never knowing about all those near-misses.
Reminds me of the old silent movies when the hero is standing in front of the house and the front of the house collapses and he just happens to be standing where the open window is.
This is how the idea of an animated cartoon was born. Use of a series of stills one after the other gives the look of animation. That is what we are seeing. Animation layed on in sequence. Print them out, cut them up and glue them on larger pages and you have a short animated cartoon. I liked creating them over the years. Just for fun.
