“Who’s that knock-knocking on my chamber door? A crow.” She seems entitled to his loyalty and doesn’t appear to see how her behaviour has impacted their relationship. Les’ response to her presence is about him acting out rather than her own failings as a parent. Zero remorse and a veiled threat of “so this is how it’s going to be?”

So the giant door-shaped hole at the top of the door is actually a giant door-shaped hole at the top of the door? I thought there would be a little door in that hole, where you could open the little door and say, “What’s the password?” to someone outside.

One thing I notice in how these panels are drawn is how close these two look like each other, given the hair color in particular. She has been definitely in need of parenting skills to put it mildly. I keep saying this lingerie party, which has put together the characters directly involved with Les, with the Degroot’s, Pru, and Ox being part of the dramatic context (where is TJ btw) is part of a bigger story. I am wrong so much with this misdirection strip, but this is no way going to settle that soon. Long arc, long arc!!

Ann’s way too callous to really be expressing motherly intent. She’s trying to use the mother-son relationship to manipulate and control Les.

Wizardgoat! You appear to be be all-knowing sage of Luann, so maybe you can answer this— in an earlier comic, didn’t Mr. Gray mention something about Les owing payment to Ms. Awful? (I f she abandoned him, how would he owe ANYTHING to her?)

Well we got one more drum roll before the orchestra plays – however it was a good one. Most of us think Ann’s event is something illegal – but we don’t know for sure. And Les has been with the plan until now – most of us think he is going with the plan as a form or repayment for his debt. On the other hand – we really don’t know enough about the history between the two. Reading the comments above – I see a lot of people are rooting for Les – which I can’t bring myself to do yet. We did get a good signal that Les likes Nancy & Ox – and may change the game for their benefit. Nevertheless I’d like to see a result more interesting than the time TJ showed Ann the door out of Weenie World.

Possible Scenario #1: Maybe Ann had good reason (for the time) to have ‘run off’ to Japan.  Maybe someone even told Les that that’s what she did, but perhaps that was to cover up the fact that she was going through some other thing…or maybe someone just made that whole thing up, and kept them apart (unbeknownst to Les). Guess it doesn’t matter to Les, he perceived it all as a major slap in his face- and it looks like it’s a perpetual trap (for them both), that whenever you try to dig yourself out of the pain, you only dig a deeper hole.

    -

Possible Scenario #2: Maybe Ann was mad at Les’ dad for being in a dangerous line of work (for which her deepest fear was realized), and also had quarrels with her brother (Al Gray), and adding to that, a strained relationship with her son….all culminating in her becoming bitter toward men, and her need to manipulate and her seeming cold and distant (as a sense of ‘protection’ from getting too close, and winding up hurt, again).  And any chance at mending fences (between Eiffel, Knox and Gray) is constantly met with the pain and resentment built up over time….

Other than a slap to his face, I don’t see any clue to tomorrow’s teaser.

Ox locked himself out through the front door. If brought back, it would be hard to have him meet Ann in a single day’s worth of panels.

Les could be asked to unload Ann’s car, parked right next to the back door.

As S-Dog suggested, this arc could be about Les’s moral choice between his old terrible family and his new supportive family at the Fuze. That seems easy looking from the outside, but may be much tougher when one is faced with turning in your own mother.

I know we’re supposed to be sympathizing with Leslie for having a bad mother (and I’m pretty certain he’ll do the right thing to foil whatever her scheme against the Fuse is) but the guy sexually harrassed/intimidated a series of high school girls, as well as garden variety bullying and theft. Is he going to blame all that on Ann not being around?

Interesting story today. Is Les going to go along with the supposed nefarious plan or will he now thwart it? His especially strong negativity towards his mother suggests he may attempt to thwart whatever is the plan.
