Poop Bea…… I’d be crying, too!, except out of being embarrassment of dropping 250 wide ones. Lesson learned: never leave the wifey any money when you croak! Some dude will come along and take it!
Sadly, Bea is an example of what happens when you have too much money. If I just got $250k, I wouldn’t be throwing it away for something far too good to be true.
Auntie Bea is crushed, and “Mr. Tracy” offers solace, plus an expression of real gratitude for her flushing the Nitrates. She is apparently rich enough that she won’t miss the $250K so much, but the real spirit-debilitating blow was to her self-image as a Lincoln expert.
Now Tracy just has to run the Nitrates to ground; and Susan’s new-found involvement with Adam Austin may make that a bit easier….
“You can be a little hard on yourself. Most collectors like to independently investigate their potential acquisitions before blowing massive amounts of money on them. Hey, if it cheers you up, I’ve got the actual ‘Our American Cousin’ Pez dispenser Lincoln bought in the lobby before he was shot, for only fifty thousand!”

So ultimately “Public Domain” was just a plot device to bust the Nitrates out of stir, huh?

A poignant strip today, proof once again of Joe & Mike’s powerful skills as comic-strip narrative story tellers.

I note that Tracy called her Ms. Thorndike when he was gathering facts, but now that he’s consoling her, he’s using the more familiar “Bea.”
