    Yes, it is funny – because normal people know what is real, and what is exaggerated for sense of comedy. Or is she supposed to think the magazine is a documentary?

    Dialect comedians were popular in Vaudeville. It was an attempt to get the pot to melt by ridiculing immigrant attempts at the moderately unphonetic English language. Now we just try to keep them out entirely.

    ~ When you are depicting different nationalities, for English speakers, it helps to write out the dialog the way native speakers would say it. It adds to authenticity.
