Many years ago, I drove up the East coast to enjoy the fall leaves. It had snowed the week before in one of the New England states, so I was in a hurry to catch it before it was gone. It was September.
I mentioned earlier: this year leaves are not showing color at all. They fall while green and turn brown on the ground. Guess mid-Virginia’s record summer heat and lack of rain are showing their effects. Unfortunately nature has treated western states much worse and we pray for them.
This is it. You have about a 30 second window for peak color. Sumacs are the worst. They are so pretty, but while they’re turning, you have a mix of red and green that looks drab from a distance, and by the time they’ve all turned, half the leaves have fallen off.

My wife loves to see the leaves turn on our maple tree in our yard. All I can see is all the work I have in cleaning the stupid things up!
