Colt9033, it’s a B&W picture of Rand Paul supporter Tim Profitt assaulting Lauren Valle … although Profitt claims that Valle assaulted his sole with her head. See, for example,
Valle was brought down or held 2 other times by other Tea Partiers before Proffit got involved. The first 2 times, she broke loose and kept making a beeline towards Paul after being told to stop. The third time, she was defeeted and stayed down.
It was just the Tea Party’s version of throwing a shoe (as was thrown at Bush), just much more accurate.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiLeud-sxrM
That’s what got Paul’s supporters so agitated. Valle, dressed in a disguise, rushed his vehicle and started stabbing into the window with her sign. All Paul’s supporters knew was that some crazy lady was not backing off and they did what they could to restrain her. In this day and age you never know what some crazy leftist is going to do “for the greater good”. Could be a serious threat, could just be an attention whore. Hopefully Paul will hire some professional security to deal with these crazies in the future.
Great job, Pab Sungenis. What annoys me about the Tea Party is that they use imagery from my homestate MA, but then say we’re not patriotic. Hello, we used the imagery first-we had the freakin’ Tea Party-and we, unlike them, were the genuine article.
I watched the video Technojunkie mentioned. The sign did not get “stabbed” into the window until after several of Paul’s supporters rushed and grabbed Valle. She is not to blame for what happened when those people shoved her around. Technojunkie’s comments imply that the men who handled her are either bullies or cowards, if there’s a difference.
If Profitt had truly believed he was protecting Paul from assault, he would not have needed to claim that Valle attacked his foot with her head.
Pab the hate mail is a mark of how well you made your point. I write a column about legal issues, and amazingly have received hate mail too. It must be something in the water. But keep it up. You’re doing a GREAT job.
After 9/11 (and before the modern “tea partiers” took it over) I hung up this flag in the coffee shop I was managing at the time. To me,it advised that America was not to be stepped on by terrorists without consequences. Some of the custmers were aghast: they accused me of hanging up a Confederate flag. (See BelleBaubo’s comment, above: it is a flag from the American Revolution, and the concerned custmers were not “people of color,” either! In fact, I imagine some of them are now TPers…)
Superb, Pab!
And Burgundy, I can sympathize - I voted 3 weeks ago. Imagine having to listen to all the smears and get the phone calls ANYWAY. Sheesh.
Both the fanatic woman and the jerk who put his foot on her head deserve ridicule. But not the Tea Party movement, which is for limited government, reduced taxation, and adherence to the Constitution.
Now which of these are you anti-Tea-Party types against? More to the point, what are you for?
A: I don’t believe the Tea Party folks are truly for limited government any more than Democrats - they just want it limited in their ways - which usually means in ways that build up the military beyond even what the military requests, reduce regulations on corporations, and cut as much assistance as possible to the poor, disabled and aged.
B: We have reduced taxation already - at least at the federal level. At least for the very rich. Compare our tax rates today for the very wealthy with those of the 1950s.
C: Democrats absolutely believe in adherence to the Constitution. That’s our point exactly. But some of the Tea Party candidates don’t even know what’s in there.
Adherence to the constitution? I just wonder how many of the teabaggers have even read the Constitution. Most American’s haven’t, and have only the vaguest notion of what’s in the amendments and what they mean.
A guy named Mark Dice, for instance, had no trouble getting people to sign a petition to repeal the first amendment. In a poll of students and teachers, significant numbers of respondents agreed with the statement that the first amendment “goes too far” in guaranteeing rights of free speech.
We might as well authorize stupidity as the national sport. Tea Partiers are automatically promoted to first string.
Apparently, none of you have ever seen what union supporters do when someone has the audacity to heckle or harrass their chosen candidate or to support an opposing viewpoint.
comicsexpert: there are different techniques of creating comic strips. Very few use the traditional technique of drawing, inking, and lettering everything on paper nowadays; most artists use digital techniques for lettering, lots use it for detail work, a good number use it for inking and some create everything in digital format. I lean towards the latter.
The strip started as an experiment using clipart instead of drawing by hand, in the tradition of the old “fumetti” I remember from National Lampoon and similar publications of the 1970’s-1990’s. Terry Gilliam got his start creating fumetti for Harvey Kurtzman’s Help! Magazine, which lends the genre a bit of authority if you ask me. And for the last two years of its existence, the WCCA recognized the genre with a “Best Photographic Comic” division.
It may not be your preferred style, but it’s no less a “comic” than any other.
Normally I don’t bother to sign in or comment, but I should say that Queen Victoria is one of the best comics of all time - Actually, I should say that every day, but I’m lazy.
