@all the above: The earliest legislators and presidents gave us the Declaration of Independence, similar forms of which have failed in many countries. They also constructed a far-seeing constitution that, while one of the shortest of its kind in history of the world, has lasted the longest and, with its more modern revisions, has done more to continue the rights and privileges of its citizens than any alternative.
Almost every other form of government that we know of has shown few of those qualities, and many have deliberately reversed them into rule by dictatorship, or military control, or they have fallen into anarchy.
If you can find a better form than the government of this nation, weak and feeble as its administrators have been from time to time, I look forward to reading it.
That’s my stand and my opinion. You are welcome to disagree. That, by the way, is the essence of our form of government, i.e., the right to dissent without censure.
OK — I’m in the mood to pick some nits. I’m certain that very few of us on this forum have actually — in the strictest Constitutional sense — voted for President. Unless you are or have been an Elector for your state, you’ve never voted for President. Consider that today’s lesson. Class dismissed — time for recess.
The problem with Democrats is that the Bernie contingent could have put Hillary over the top in the battleground states, but nooooo, they had to protest vote by voting for a marginal candidate. Okay, Bernie voters who spurned Hillary, you exercised your right to vote for the candidate of your choice, and now you can go to hell with the rest of us! Don’t blame Republicans. They can’t help it. They’re…..Republicans!
Actually, I know someone whose grandfather was 75 when his mom was born—and his grandfather was a rider for the Pony Express, commissioned by Abraham Lincoln.
Ah! Nothing like arguing about Clintons and Bushes to take attention away from the fact that we have the most narcissistic, lying bag of douche EVER, in the white house right now!
A reminder: Even though it is popularly called Presidents Day, it is actually a celebration Washington’s Birthday, which why it is in February. The original 1968 Uniform Monday Holiday Act mentioned no other president other than George Washington - not even Lincoln.

I take off religious holidays for religions I don’t believe in, so why not?

Had it not been for those early presidents, there would be no US holiday, collective or not. And there would be little to celebrate.

Presidents day honors all US presidents. That’s why there’s no apostrophe in the word “presidents”.
