What else can he say? Unless the toxicologist spends some time to see just how much is in Stagg’s system and if it is sufficient to kill him. There wouldn’t be a problem except we were told he put something else in the food to kill him. So it couldn’t be the fuku poison.
TRACY: Well Mayor Armstrong, its like this… theoretically the case is closed, yes… but there’s this bad hombre that spent 5 years on the rockpile and he is kinda freaky looking so I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume, without any concrete evidence, that he killed Stagg.
ARMSTRONG: No Tracy, you messed up with Sweatbox.. you let Mr Bribery run wild for years, and you lost track of all that gold, PLUS Bea Thorndike looks like a moron now thanks to you not apprehending the Nitrates… I’m closing this case. Now… let’s do lunch! My treat!
TRACY: Sounds good,, lets try Peppers.. I hear the blowfish is to DIE for!

It sounds like a user needs to be reported multiple times before the moderator will take action. It makes me wonder if this Internet troll spent time going through a week’s worth of Gweedo’s posts purely to flag them.
This day’s strip provides occasion to bring up two points.1) Restaurants can serve fugu in Japan. I severely doubt that the government permits any restaurant in the USA to serve fugu, just like you can’t obtain absinthe in the USA.2) Dick Tracy said that “Eating fugu carries a high element of risk, even when…” Let us presume that he is speaking comparatively or putting one over on the mayor. If it really did carry a high element of risk, then the US government would for sure prohibit it, and even the Japanese wouldn’t touch it. (As an example, not that many years ago New Jersey tried to prohibit restaurants from serving soft-boiled eggs, because they aren’t cooked enough to kill all the bacteria.)
That Stagg pic on the desk might be a computer image. Doubtful it’s a photo, unless Ms. Mayor had a little sdomething going, much like most politicians these days
To my eyes, Mayor Armstrong in panel 1 still has that look of enmity and disdain towards Tracy in her little piggy-eyes and pursed lips. She’s a dirty politician; we all know it; so does Tracy—though we and he lack proof. In panels 2 & 3, Tracy gives a simple, professional response to her inquisitorial demand. “He’s dead; he ate fugu; we’re still investigating.”
Spelled “Babera” on the door. A possible non-criminal foil for Dick Tracy and the police department. Good thing too. With the Green Hornet tv series he had help from a friend who knew who he was. Though he got flack for not capturing or killing the GH. It came up in an episode when he ran for D.A. again.

Good morning™, everyone!
I can’t remember when we saw the mayor’s given name before, but this is a pretty strange way of spelling “Barbera” (normally Barbara).

TRACY: Unless some new evidence turns up, we don’t have a case. But, we’re still waiting on the final report from toxicology.

Well, if the poison didn’t do the job, the autopsy certainly did! ;-)

I think Ms. Armstrong’s mayoralty will last as long as Xi’s presidency in China.
