Well that answers the “can Lupin read different whisker languages?” question. Poor Lupin. Poor Sir Figaro. Luckily Puck is there to interpret and muffle Elvis before he puffs himself inside out.
I couldn’t resist — had to track down the original version from the BCN site: http://www.breakingcatnews.com/comic/lupin-found-a-tiny-door-in-the-bathroom-closet/
I love that Pucky recognises Figaro’s voice being as he was the one with his ear up to the ceiling wondering what their dreams are. Lupin never truly poofs up at Figaro—a characteristic of being a cat of adventure and being ultra friendly and personable.
I’m late to the party, obvs, since I didn’t catch on to Lupin’s deafness until now….but congrats on that touch! Every white cat I’ve known in my life save one was born deaf, and I remember one (“Angel”, my grandma’s cat) being very adventurous! Maybe it’s genetic?
Just discovered from Facebook that this is the 4th Anniversary!!! Here’s what Georgia said, “Four years ago tonight, Lupin knocked everything off a shelf in our bedroom and Puck and Elvis came running to investigate. At 11:07 pm, I posted the first actual Breaking Cat News strip, a quick little sketch on some scrap paper. And the rest… Well, has happened very quickly! Happy four years, everyone!! Here’s to many more, let’s all hope! Thank you, Lupin.”
Sir Figaro is one of my favorite characters. I love his unflappable nature: He calmly turns to the camera and asks the logical question, even though he was frightened a moment ago.
In related news, we have two tuxedo cats that show up in our yard every day, one gray, the other black and white. They look well kept, are definitely male. Both are wary but don’t act feral. 8-ball isn’t too upset by them, but Waffle (our Elvis personality) is, though not as much as for most other stray toms. We’re hoping to eventually rescue these two. Unfortunately, local animal control and Spay ’n Stay are not being as helpful as of old. Wish us, and the Stranger Cats, luck.
This is a beginning of a great storyline, but please remember not to post spoilers without warnings for our new folks. I guess posting the new cat with a suit’s name isn’t too much of a spoiler, but we haven’t been told that yet in the comic. . .
Georgia, revered leader of this humamonagumuous & wunnerful Mega Orb, many, MANY thanks for sharing BCN with us! You could have left it at Lupin knocking over stuff & the other boys being curious. But instead you were inspired! And your inspiration has spawned a familyhood of orbsters, who adore you, and your personal orb!
May four years become fourscore! (((((((((((GEORGIA DUNN))))))))))))
I just noticed something… Is Lupin using the ASL sing for “deaf”? The hand positioning looks like it… I knew he could read whiskers, but didn’t realize he knows sign language as well.

And now Puck’s time spent learning the dreams of the ceiling cats pays off. Stay calm, Puck, muffle Elvis and carry on.

Is Fig signing to Lupin in panel 2? Or just jiggling around because he was startled?
