Deowe’s and Auto Y Rod must have the same colored uniforms. (When I wear my black polo shirt and roam around Fred Meyer, I at times get confused as an employee. When I read my red polo and still roam around Fred, I at times get confused as a cheese monger at the Murray’s Cheeses station.)
I have been viewed as a Staples employee when I ear my red jacket. I was also viewed as an employee of Grossman’s (a Boston-area home improvement / lumber store) years ago when I wore my snorkel coat, which had an orange liner (Grossman’s color).
I have worked in retail for over 30 years. I go into any store in my city and it is guaranteed that at least 3 people will ask me for assistance. They have seen me working in retail for so long they think I work everywhere. This happens even if I am wearing my oldest, grubbiest looking clothes and I clearly haven’t shaved in a week because I’m on vacation.
Lots of real-life stories of this ilk over at notalwaysright.com . Jaw-dropping examples of how mean/stupid people can be towards working folk. And not a few stories of appalling ignorance on the other side.

She should know he’s not an employee there by the fact that he’s not wearing their uniform.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been in Baldo’s position. People are NUTS.

Considering she can’t find an actual employee, of which Baldo isn’t one, he ought to agree with her!

Remind me of a scene when Groucho insulted Margaret Dumont, she reacted,“Well, i never!” and Groucho quipped, “And you never will..!”

This once happened to a friend of mine, only she was in her 50s and was mistaken for a golf course employee.
