Pastis does these strips mainly to pay the bills, but also to show off his talent. So it’s

1. for the money,

2. for the show.

I’m old enough to remember that “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Hound Dog” were flip sides on the same 45. “DBC” was # 1 for several weeks and then “HD” followed it for several more. I had just decided to build my record collection by buying every # 1…after 15 weeks I only had 1 record!

OK—I literally [face-palmed] on this one. However, the buildup worked its way into quite an effective, if groan-inducing, pun. Teach me your ways, o pun-meister Pastis …

You don’t always get what you ask for, but if you try sometime (and you’re Rat) you can bat Cartoon-Boy over the backwards-hatted head for these atrocious, woefully far-fetched puns! No sympathy for the devil!

Ewe r goanna get it. I h8 monitoring u. Deer Stephan, Eye don’t want 2 grin and bear it. I wood rather just fall asheep. But aye-aye wood get Dan Rather horse just 2 complain. Mule #1: Do knot recycle olde puns, and bee quiet about it. It really bugs me. Now, gotta fly. By the way, I am having noun, pronoun, pro-noun, anti-noun, Proper Noun, Improper Noun, homonym, conjunction, pro-junction, proverb, adverb, verb, and adjective problems. Last but knot least, sum 1 should doc you’re pay.
