So, if he says yes, it’d be hard? Because you’ll be so shocked speechless? Say some gibberish and turn him off? Or faint? Come on, you might be surprised but you’re stronger than that. Don’t be the weaker sex. Say “Awesome. When? Where?” or “Cool, how about this pizza place tomorrow after school?”
I think he will say yes personally. My money goes on yes. Fay is smarter than Luann was at the same age. Luann was all dream world. Fay is practical. Now if he says no, would that crush her? Would he just be scared? Would she just re-up and try again? Again I guess I have to be the adult in the durn room here
Luann should play Axel. Maybe the first line from Axel, “what do you wanna do?” After a few lines exchanged – Fay & Luann discuss Fay’s presentation. Then maybe run through it again – stressing tone, body language, confidence. Fay should have a plan – bus ride to the beach or whatever. Luann should end with telling Fay to be prepared for anything. If not Axel, maybe another guy – or maybe Axel again later on.
Just ask Axel to do something he’s interested in, like “hey Dude, wanna….”; never ever ask “Will you go out with me” it sounds desperate, clingy and just ever so slightly, controlling. Come on Luann, you should know all this….but then again, maybe not. Probably not.
Just like what Notbornyesterday said.. Just say something like, “Hey Axel, wanna get a pizza after school?” Or, better yet, don’t make it a one-on-one offer. Get some friends together and then approach him…“Hey Axel, a bunch of us are going for a pizza…wanna come?” MUCH less intimidating for BOTH of them.
Fay just spent a long time in close proximity to Axel, they were the co-leads in a play. If she doesn’t know him well enough to ask him out by now, it’s not going to happen. Luann isn’t going to be any help as she doesn’t really know Axel aside from him being the jerk who blew off Pru’s acting camp.
So? You want him to say yes – asking is the hard part! Just play it cool, go to a movie together. Classic, affordable, and you don’t even have to chat, since you’ll be watching a film.
You will need a parent to drive you, however… I’m sure Luann will fill in for your mom. Again.
As I said above and others seem to agree, this is not ethical of Luann. Her mother hired her for a different reason. Sure, self-confidence is related to asking Axel out, but L. is violating mom’s trust. This is one reason why I see this arc as helping Luann to mature more. She has slipped from mentor status to big sister or girlfriend. While the ultimate outcome might benefit Fay, she is not being fair to mom’s expectations. There will be a consequence.
It seems likely Luann is about to lose this job (for disobeying Ms. Garcia’s explicit instructions), which could lead to Luann taking up nude modelling.
@TIARELLACLARK: I’m guessing this is your idea of humor. I read it a couple times. Still can’t see any humor in your comment, but to each his or her own, I guess…
Okay. Maybe “I,” and some others here, have it all wrong. Mrs. Garcia was suitably impressed with Axel back on March 29th and 30th. So maybe she wouldn’t be so opposed to Fay going out with Axel on a “date” PROVIDED Luann accompanies them as Chaperone. BUT, while Luann would be Chaperoning, she can’t LOOK like she’s “Chaperoning.” Which means Luann would need a date. Now “Who” would that be?
1) Jack? Obvious Choice. On the other hand, this is coming way to soon after the last Luann/Jack “date” and Lu may not want to give the Jack the impression that She’s “interested, maybe.” At least not yet.
2) Quill? I kinda halfway hope this would happen, because it would be one TENSE date, followed by Loud Arguments about “who was at fault.” All to the bewildered stares of the young teens.
3) The return of Aaron Hill? Oh GOD, Please, NO!!!
4) My “Favorite Nerd,” Gunther? Why not? Gunther’s “Safe,” and he needs a distraction now that he’s about to enter the Seventh Circle of HELL in that “Guest House Gulag,” with Les. Anyway, Luann trusts Gunther and is fairly sure Gunther wouldn’t won’t do something to break her foot. But the best part is, when Gunther starts talking about his sewing machine. Axel will chime in that they need someone to sew costumes for the next play that he and Fay are in, to which Gunth volunteers. Later, He gets rave reviews on his costume designs, prompting an offer of a Summer Job sewing costumes for the local Pitts Theater Group. Where Gunther meets his next “love interest.” A promising, stunning, young actress………,
I am no expert on whether a comic artist is saying something in particular when he or she changes things like the shape or color of the balloons containing dialog. I just wonder if it is significant that Fay’s balloons are mostly in a square shape here? Sign of tension, or just that was the only shape that could fit in the panel?
I become more disappointed with Luann’s actions thus far. I am of the camp that believes there will be significant disgruntlement from Mrs. Garcia…. and Luann should be well aware of her responsibilities here. If Luann feels strongly enough about helping Fay with her dating prospects…. Luann knows she needs to get Mrs. Garcia’s approval or at least acquiescence first. For me, the longer Luann allows the “dating coaching” to go on without seeking some sort of “ok” from Mrs. Garcia…. it puts Luann in a bad light, IMO.
Now, that said… I also believe that Luann means well for Fay and is trying to do something good and helpful. But…. the way she is going about it…. without agreement or permission from Mrs. Garcia…. it is making Luann seem to me to reverting back to a more immature state. She is probably 19 here… and really should be thinking more globally about what she is doing. This is especially true as the relationship she has with Fay has been set to be a MENTORING relationship…. which is more specialized and has different dynamics than simple friendship.
It would make more sense to find out what he likes to do, then suggest doing it together instead of just spending time with Fay. Go for a bike ride, see the latest movie, go to a comic book store, etc.

Well, Ladies. All of these “Well Laid Plans” are for naught if you can’t get Mrs. Garcia to sign off on this “date.”

Luann can give Faye the advice but it’s up Faye to take it and act on it.

Only three comment camps this morning. The how can I make it sexual camp. The advice to the lovelorn camp. And the can’t we see something else camp.
Oops. Looks like I have just introduced the editorial neutrality camp. :o)

I hate to say this, but I’m kind of with Fay’s mother. This is not something a teacher should be doing with a student.
