Loved how the latest group just got swept into office to STOP THE SPENDING, but before they could be seated they pulled off the LATEST BIG DEFICIT HEIST of $700B for the richest American’s who DON’T EVEN WANT the money!

This country is SICK!

Too true & too sad, but if they don’t shape up & work together, both parties are going to bring down some awful consequences upon all of us. George Washington himself couldn’t understand the 2-party system eventhough he helped create it by usually favoring Hamilton over Jefferson. Somewhere we need middle ground. I don’t mean standing on what’s left of the middle class either.

It’s not the the richest don’t WANT the money, it that they don’t NEED the money. These “modern” Republicans are sick. REMINDER: Trinkle-down economics DOESN’T work!!! Remember Ronald Reagan-omics in the ’80s?!?

Both sides can be bought if the price is right.

The new congress hasn’t even taken office and already some of you clowns are giving them the blame. You either believe in individual liberty or you don’t and it’s obvious most of you here don’t.

Do you believe in “individual” liberty or corporate liberty? When the republicans talk about freedom, they usually mean the freedom for corporations to do whatever they want to the individual. i.e. Send our jobs to China, start profitable(for them) wars, incorporate off-shore to avoiod taxes, stifle labor unions, etc.

The Tea party types are unhappy about this too. These guys haven’t even got their chairs warm yet and already breaking promises to try to rein in the deficit. Increased spending and lower taxes—- what do you think is going to happen? Try it at home, lower paychecks plus buying all the toys you want. You go bankrupt. Same thing here.

Greed wins everytime. No matter is power or money, it will over run good people and their intentions.

Darkforce and Clark Kent are right. Socialism has worked so well in Europe that we must try it here. Hard to believe that we haven’t followed that shining example.

Ah, yes, “trickle down” economics… and the trickle has turned into a shower. Just remember, though: all that’s golden isn’t necessarily gold…

If things are so bad here in America, why are so many trying to get in? We have problems, that’s true, but there aren’t too many places (countries) where one could live in comparative safety and comfort as here in America! True, the two-party system hasn’t always given us the best choice (aka, Bush) but overall it has worked well and occasionally we luck out and someone comes along who makes a difference. The big problem is that we need him/her now and as things are going it doesn’t too good, from either party!

Because it’s worse where they’re coming from. Are many of the people trying to emigrate from 1st-world countries? I don’t think so.

That’s an awfully broad brush you’re painting with. Which “socialist” countries are you referring to? I highly doubt that the most liberal of liberals would eagerly embrace the “socialist” brand of a country such as China. Social democracies, such as the Scandanavian states, aren’t really known for the mass oppression of personal liberties.

-No jobs = no one spending any money because they have none -no one spending any money = companies can’t sell their products -can’t sell = no investment (why expand when you can’t sell what you have) and no hiring -no hiring = no jobs …and ‘round we go.

If only there were some way to inject money into the economy. And no, cutting taxes on the rich doesn’t work in this situation: see, “no investment”

The problem is that we have a political party that lost its control and is doing whatever it can to gain it back. Instead of governing, they oppose everything that is proposed by their “enemies” across the aisle. Even the most necessary of bills gets opposed so that they can point to the fact that the “new” congress is ineffective. Add to that a populace that votes for sound bites instead of being educated on the issues and we have the CF that is congress. Unfortunaely I don’t see this changing anytime soon.

Wiley, as the others have said, you are a fine successor to the late Walt Kelly’s Pogo. In particular, your ability to create an excellent political Rorschach Test is a never-ending wonder. Watching my fellow commentators take the bait, hook-line-and-sinker day after day is a beautiful thing!

Sad thing is they need the money to buy ads to get us to elect them, and we do!

Second the kudos to Wiley. Anyone who stimulates this much (mostly intelligent) discussion is certainly doing it right.

But both parties in Congress and the White House are eagerly making what may turn out to be a devil’s bargain:

If we trade short-term economic stimulus and social relief (not bad in themselves) into an actual downgrading of our nation’s debt reliability in the eyes of the world, we’re sunk. The interest we’ll have to pay on our debt will soar, and that alone could drive the nation into default. This is all moving down a very, very bad road….

I’m thinking about atarting the “Honesty” party. The motto is: I can be bought and I’ll stay bought until someone comes up with a better offer.

At least we’ll be honest about our intentions.

Federalists (like Washington) and Democratic Republicans morphed to Democrats and Republicans, but since when has the United States ever been in actuality a “two-party” system? Libertarians, and others have long demonstrated there’s no limit, except in people’s minds.

Wiley should start the “Armed Bear” party, blending the NRA with National Wildlife Federation, or even PETA? That would make an “interesting” convention.

if you’ve got the money honey, i’ve got the time… a pox on BOTH your houses! when did we forget that when we chuse the “lessor of two evils”, we are still chusing evil?

On the other hand, the voters are not blameless either.

Most voters are for smaller government–but don’t you dare touch, or even talk about cutting–the programs they benefit from. Maybe, were that possible, we could get by with less government interference in commerce and such.

Unfortunately, it’s not the BEST Congress, it’s the ONLY Congress … I can’t wait for the NEXT American Revolution; hopefully, we’ll get it RIGHT this time and take our wealth back from the greedy powers that be. Why do we allow one per cent of the population to control ninety per cent of the wealth? Socialism would be a good start!

I agree with so many of the comments today. I wish we could go back to simpler times (In my youth, we did not lock our doors, we paid doctors directly with cash money, kids had FUN playgrounds where they might get hurt if not careful - and much else was simpler and I liked it better!)

And still a pathetic mess.

The extreme right Rethuglican (thanks Clark Kent) party continues to bully the centrist Democrats. If this country can get ridge of the Reagan “We’re #1” mentality and take the positive aspects of socialist Europe, the U.S. will have a greater chance to prosper.
