    There’s a simple solution…

“Hey sharks! Those gators think you’re a bunch of wusses!”

I appreciate his low-key approach and his calmness in a crisis.

Though not as much as I would appreciate a 30-0-6 …

Since the King apparently isn’t rowing, just knock his lazy butt overboard and row fast and hard while they’re munching on him. “I don’t have to outrun the bear” and all that.

The bit about not having to outrun the bear only works when there are more targets than predators. 3 men, 4 crocs, 4 sharks; the guys are soggy toast..

Is there a significance to the flag which escapes me?

And, kreole, you need to come down here to Aussie to be introduced to our “salties” - the salt water crocs which, for example, make it too dangerous to actually swim in Darwin harbour.

If i were one those guys, i’d turn and say to man who spoke and say, “Really Captain Obvious? Thank you for the update. Your not used to talking to be people in real-time are you?”

Actually, the guys in the raft are lawyers (or fill in the profession or political position of your choice) and the critters in the water the honor guard.

The flag is the maritime distress flag. I’m surprised Wiley used it, but he’s got brains, and isn’t afraid to make us use ours!

Saltwater crocs from the waters off of northern Australia. Considered one of the more dangerous varieties.

Hi rayannina, speaking of “calm”, did you see the video of the “school board shooter”? The board member with the gun pointed at him was unbelievably cool, and how bout the woman hitting the gunman with her purse?

I’d say the King there’s wearing glasses. If he had suspenders too, I’d say there’s a goodbye to Larry joke there somewhere (don’t watch him, but get the impressions the emphasis is on “Downplay”).

Has anyone ever seen a shark and a croc fight over food? I would be really curious to see who would win.

Actually, I’m thinking it might mean “square peg, round hole,” thus symbolizing the futility of rowing for shore.

On a positive view, “when all about you are losing their heads”– analyzing the situation says that neither the shark nor the saltwater crocs are going to eat those IN the raft- and depending on how long they’ve been at sea, the REAL food chain may be developing INSIDE the raft!

@ rayannina: I was wondering what you meant by “30-0-6”, then I realized that you mean (I think) “.30 ‘06” – as in a .30 ‘06 rifle. Actually, in similar circumstances, I’d want nothing less than a .357, .380 or .45 semi-automatic pistol. (A rifle would be too clumsy in that tiny raft.)

If you are composed of organic matter, you have food chain issues. Feeding large predators is direct, but can be painful. Feeding the worms could feed fruit trees. I’ve told my family to throw the leftovers in the spare parts bin. Preservation or burning the remains are just selfish, but often the only legal ways.

    Link for the distress flag,

    http://www.iboats.com/Kwik-Tek-Distress-Signal/dm/cart_id.641505360–session_id.950023923–view_id.21985

Put a back stroke (\) before first two underscores for it to work! It’s for each pair of underscores, so for three like here, only the first two.

Edit: Funny, the link still doesn’t work but the underscore bit will usually work. The flag was there and can be found by clicking on the correct sequence on the left of the page.

Apparently the order of the square and circle is immaterial, but see http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2007/octqtr/pdf/46cfr160.072-5.pdf for far more information on the subject than any of the people reading this can possibly want to know.

Hey, when you’re in the ocean, you’re in the food chain. And not very high up either…Thank god for the Great Lakes….no crocodiles, sharks or anything… OK, an occasional snapper….

no only hypothermia to worry about, I would rather take my chances with the sharks and crocs. At least with the sharks and crocs you have a small chance. In the great lakes you have no chance
