Good thing Miss Case decoyed with the spare BB or GH would have had to get tough with Tracy instead of doing the Philippy thing. They want officers who are not itchy triggered !
The Tracy silhouette makes me think this is the end of this arc. In that panel, the Green Hornet admits that if he continues to fight Tracy they will end up in jail. The GH has done his part and it’s now time for his customary slip out the back door. His identity remains safe.
I’m guessing tomorrow will be a Memorial Day tribute strip. The annual summer story arc could begin on Tuesday.
Green Hornet gasses Tracy twice and gives him a heck of a gut punch yet limps back to Central City with his tail between his legs because he’s afraid Dick Tracy will catch him? I’m not buying it. Tracy used to always get his man but recently he has been bested frequently. This crossover diminished Tracy in his own strip and Hornet high-tailing it home diminishes him.
Kato’s one-kick action scene in silhouette diminishes him and makes him irrelevant.
Topper, himself, was irrelevant and Layfayette played no part whatsoever even though he stated he would be observing during Tracy and Topper’s first meeting. Layfayette was irrelevant.
This was a “wouldn’t it be cool if Tracy clashed with [fill in the blank]” story. The whole point was the fight between Tracy and Hornet. The entire rest of the story was irrelevant.
When did any of these crossovers make sense. Let’s move on, hopefully upward with a new story and new (Not resurrected) villain) As Annie once said (sung) not in a crossover; Tomorrow, Tomorrow….
Did it ever occur to the Green Hornet that life would be a lot more easier if he simply dropped the pretense that he’s a criminal, & acted simply like a costumed crime fighter? It might make him even more effective, it seems he spends most of his time and energy fighting the police, not the criminals he’s ostensibly out to catch.
I don’t know how Lenore “Casey” Case got back to Central City (train?), and I didn’t know that there was a spare Black Beauty garaged in the Hornet’s Nest. But, hey, misdirection is misdirection is good….
And I think we can take that last-panel Angular Icon of Tracy as a Full Stop punctuating the end of this tale….
OK, the Hornet had Casey drive a spare Black Beauty in his city to provide misdirection for Dick Tracy. Fine, but is he staying in Tracy’s city, or he does just need more time to get his home city? Hornet himself states here that Tracy may catch him eventually.
In hindsight, this story feels like the beginning of the souring in the GoComics Comments section, where people like Ray Toler, Sisyphos, possibly even Gweedo (although it’s hard to tell with him banned during this period) who’d started out as fans of Curtis’ work on Tracy, slowly, gradually became haters. I think the complaints even got to me at the time, and even I “remembered” it as a bad, disappointing story.
But now, re-reading this story for the first time in the 5 years since it first came out, I was surprised to realize that this was actually a fun and exciting climax, that I genuinely like this story. To heck with the haters!

Topper tucked away in jail
By Hornet he was stung
Thought he’d pull a scam or two
Big dreams of gold now dung.
There rides a spare Black Beauty
Slick misdirection rules
Face off against Dick Tracy
A game oft played by fools.
Hornet knows he must vamoose
Won’t push his luck too far
Kato eases out of town
Hot wheels. A sleek fast car.
Always glad to make a bust
Yet Hornet flew away
Unleashed gas. A lightning dash
They’ll meet again someday.

Good morning™, wrapper-uppers!
I’m rather confused about the stuff about Ms. Case and the spare Black Beauty. When was she driving the spare? Does anyone understand this?
I didn’t get time today to revamp my web page system, so no new web page yet.

Well, Neil, we may be eating crow at this point!
A spare Black Beauty – just to make Tracy think the Hornet is gone!
I know I’m eating crow, because I thought it was through yesterday!

Respect is seldom heard or seen
Except when given by someone in green
Perhaps a stretching of the truth is there
The reality is he had nothing to fear
And yet he knows that the shell he faced
Is capable still of running the race
So mocking or scorn his lips will never say
Only praise he’ll have it no other way

So, The Hornet and Kato are still at large in Tracy’s jurisdiction.

Good for Gendarme Philippy, in the Tracy HOF.

Silly Hornet: crooks never live long enough to reach jail in Tracyville!

Overall this crossover is a good story. A few missteps (old movies, ‘Red Wasp’, Honeyboy lookalike) this was decent.
