Now in my sixties, I recently made my umpteenth attempt to read “Moby Dick”. After about 100 pages, I said to myself, “I’m too old for this bleep.” (not my exact words), and donated my copy to the local library. Let someone else suffer.
And after he’s done with his bath, Dean should visit Laurel Hill Cemetery, to visit the grave of Charles Vansant, shark attack victim and inspiration for “Jaws”.
The 1956 movie is one of the best films ever made from a classic novel. Nobody ROARS like Gregory Peck…;-)
Like pdking says, Wrath of Khan played out the story remarkably well. And there could have been a third good one: there’s a novel called The Bedford Incident that plays a trick on the reader, by being a replay of Moby Dick. The parallels gradually grow less subtle, until the last line is verbatim…sadly the 1965 movie threw that aspect out, and became a simple Cold War thriller.

So Dean quoted both Captain Ahab and Chief Martin Brody?

She quotes a pretty good Khan, too.

Dean is my favorite character in this comic’s universe. Any kid that follow up a “Moby Dick” quote with a quote from “Jaws” is aces in my book!
