If I was confused as Nelson, I’d add on why there are baseball bats in Earl’s belfry.
Just wait until you hear
a bat fly out of his ear.
’Hmmmmmmmmm……..not a nice thing to say to a grandson about his granddad….Hmmmmmmmmm.
I’d rather have bats in my belfry, I don’t like ringing in my ears.

Better than having Quasimodo in your belfry.
Bang! Zoom!
This could mean war! “Oh, she did, did she? Well your Gramma’s ladder doesn’t go all the way to the roof.”
We actually have bats in our church belfry. Filthy, but a protected species.
I once interviewed a bat expert for local radio. Fascinating.

The original Belfry was a military siege tower, that was on wheels or rollers, so that it could be brought against an enemy fortified wall. Having bats living in an empty siege tower might equate to an empty head during the middle ages.
