Reminds me of the time I was standing on the monorail at Disney World and a seated passenger asked me “Sir, would you like my seat?”. One of life’s defining moments…

I became even more aware of how others perceive me several years ago when waitresses began calling me “Sweetie,” “Honey,” and “Dear.”

Gad, I hate that.

I started getting the ‘old treatment’ a few years ago, and I hated it. Then I asked myself why. Was I mad that someone was being caring and considerate? (No, that would be foolish). Was I mad that I was getting older? (Definitely) Or was I attributing to others the same sense of superiority I felt years ago when I addressed older people in a similar way? (Probably). Realizing the last two items helped me see the kindness behind people’s actions and appreciate them.

Mixed Emotions: The first time a restaurant gives you the Senior Citizen’s Discount … and you didn’t know about it or ask for it.

It’s tough when you remember yourself as you’ve always been but the neighbors see you as you s something different…and the world turns on….

we have two ages…our chronological age and the age we feel in our minds…the later rarely ages beyond 24.

I looked 45 when I was 30, 66 now and I look about 50.

If we have enough “glory days” old age is just when we are resting for a wee bit. There’s a call for war stories and we don’t have to go to war to have them. I recognize them in the making when I stand still for a moment and wonder what to do now.

I was raised to be respectful and defer to my elders. Now I am “the elder.” With no one to be respectful to, I guess I can start becoming “crotchety” now?

I worked in an office where the A/C went down during one heat wave. I asked the accounting department if they were OK because the TV said to check on elderly neighbors. They all threw stuff at me (while they were laughing, of course).

I went into a pizza place in NYC a few years ago and the counter guy said, “What’ll it be Pops?”….Pops!? I left the restaurant feeling somewhat older than when I walked in.

My dad says he never felt old until all 4 of his kids were collecting Social Security. He’s now 95 and happy that he is still on the warm side of the rock.

Still 19 in my mind but enjoying all the benefits that I earned and loving it

It was when of my work colleagues told me how they snuck into see “Purple Rain” as 12 year olds. Uhhh, I was in my late twenties when that was released.

I believe all the comments have covered just about everything. Except this: Be glad if someone cares enough to worry about you and checks to make sure. We all could use an Ashlee next door.

Younger people have unrealistic views of older folks. When he was in his 20’s Paul Simon wrote “Old Friends”, which has lines like “preserve your memories, they’re all that’s left you” and “how terribly strange to be 70”. Today he’s 76 and doing world tours. Wonder what he thinks of that song now.

Yeah.. just took my mom and dropped her off as she’s going on a lovely boat ride and lobster bake with the senior center. They told me they had an extra ticket and I could come along… :(

I was first gong to say, “I’m getting there”, but thinking about it i think that i have arrived.

Elderly is relative. My Great grandmother was in a nursing home in her 80’s. She would help out by pushing the “old people” in their wheel chairs. They were in their 60’s and 70’s.

There was a strip in the summer of 2016 that insinuated Janis likes to sunbathe naked in her backyard. Something doesn’t jive here, unless they moved and I missed it.

I’ve always wondered what Paul McCartney thinks when he hears his old song, “When I’m 64”….he’s 76 now. Time to write a new song?

Kinda like getting your first issue of AARP magazine in the mail. You didn’t order it, but they know you just turned 55.

I ran a recient photo of a friend in her early 70’s thru Microsoft’s how-old.net and it said she looks 57..
