Adam: I'm taking the kids to the store. Do you need anything? Laura: I'm all set. Thanks. Katy: We're finishing up our Christmas shopping. Adam: But it's a surprise, so don't try to guess your present. Laura: Omg. I can't believe I haven't even started shopping yet. I feel so alive! So spontaneous! So doomed.

I have a special pill I’m going to take. Won’t wake up until 7am January 2nd!

I hear ya lady, I’m doomed too! I have to buy like 50 cards that are not the same! (or at least 25 cards, and get 2 each!) man I hate having to search for cards!

The truism of the perfect being the enemy of the practical very much applies to the ART of Christmas gifting. We all remember the absolute JOY when you give that singularly perfect Christmas gift and from that point on we have strived to repeat that experience!
What we forget is that human nature being what it is, these ‘perfect moments’ MUST BE RARE! Remember O.Henry’s Christmas Classic “Gift of the Magi”? Two perfect gifts passing each other like ships in the night.
As adults we realize that, in the end, it is the THOUGHT THAT COUNTS and the spirit of the season is the God-given spirit of LOVE!
Merry Christmas!

@SeS1066 - thanks for the dose of sanity. Spent much of yesterday in desperate, I’ll-never-be-this-late-again mode, trying to buy for my husband (one of the toughest people on earth to buy for.) Meanwhile we’re also moving to a new house on Christmas Eve. Couldn’t be much more complicated this year - just hope he doesn’t mind my non-creativity. ;)

ever year I get later and later, soon here I’ll be so late I’ll be early again. The only person that I have completely shopped for is the best friend of my son. He is the easiest to shop for.

My humble suggestions - speaking “ex Cathedra” from my bellybutton!
1) A housing move negates all other concerns - give the gift of good spirits and a warm ‘new’ house to YOURSELVES as a joint Xmas gift. 2) If a gift is still necessary, invoke the “12 Days of Christmas” and you have till January 6th to find that ‘gift’! 3) Give LOVE, the singular perfect gift, without equal and is something no one ever takes to the return counter.
In short, you will notice that everything I suggest involves giving a gift of YOURSELF. You can give no greater gift.

Stand out from the crowd. Forget about Christmas presents. Shop the after-Christmas sales, and give your family New Year presents. Or better yet, pick some random day of the year and give a gift to someone “just because” rather than because it is the expected thing to do.

Why would you say “OMG” in a comic strip regarding Christmas? The birth of the Son of God is the ONLY reason for celebrating Christmas, and you use our Lord’s name in vain. Shame on you.

If you want to keep in the spirit of giving stuff but can’t deal with Christmas, why not give Epiphany presents. Actually, that would make more sense because Epiphany (January 6) commemorates when the Magi came bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Plus, you get to make use of the after-Christmas sales.
As for me, not too many gifts this year. And I am working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
