We played Monopoly a lot when we were kids, and liked it, but I don’t think we ever once finished a game. We never even got the point of someone declaring bankruptcy! When we’d had enough, the winner was the one with the most money.
I like their way of playing better. When I was little I also prefered more creative things than a board/bored game. I was a daredevil who rode my bike no-handed like the boys and kids every age in my neighborhood played follow the leader together; I was one of the youngest allowed to play, so sometimes hurt myself- once fell off a box and broke a window (many stitches).
an updated way to play this game is to play with calculators and no paper money at all ; everyone starts with an equal amount of money in their account and the money exchanges hands electronically, as if using credit cards
I love the mayor comment….it’s just cute. my brother and I and few friends would do a “nopathon” a monopoly event over weekends.when we were teens…sure we were in debt more than in real life we are now….and there wasn’t a lot of paying attention after a while as we started laughing and talking….ahh…good times. I collect the game now….from countries I visit….not all the funky themed ones…but standard games…just from other countries. I love it!
A meteor? Quick, hide under the giant thimble! Or make a getaway in a battleship, which you may have to reach by wheelbarrow! Better leave your iron behind.
Well, Monopoly is based in Atlantic City. Most recent mayors of AC have ended up in jail for one reason or another. So Joe and Ruthie have their facts straight.
