He is crushing her skull such is his rage. She may slice her own throat to end it quicker. Even if she does cut him he won’t go down till he bleeds out. Fact…..when your body is hopped on adrenaline by fear or anger even with your heart destroyed you’ll still live and function for about 8 to 10 minutes. Then the brain shuts down due to oxygen depletion. Old Army term was Combat Mind Set…….you just fight till the darkness closes in.
I love the composition of this page. The slight blur, the tight focus, both faces being wide-eyed and open-mawed, one can only imagine the screaming of the two in the midst of that frantic struggle. The unhinged animal savagery that Walt has given into while Denise looks utterly terrified…yet she’s not frightened beyond reason, as we can see with the razor being drawn. She’s still a calculating killer and she can very well take Walt down with her.
It looks like Endtown will save the cost of two trials. This may actually be the best end for Walter, he will never truly recover from learning that Portia didn’t survive. He would undoubtedly suffer from survivors guilt because he will realize she probably died because he was drunk and absent when she needed him. Our only wish for Denise is that he takes her with him.
She is facing away, her arms should be too short to damage anything but the top of Walts arms. I tried it with my friend as a demonstration to settle this argument. Her arms should be in close to being in proportion with her body. Even with long arms its almost impossible and Walt seems to have her at a safe distance, if he does let go he can drop kick her and it would kill her.
It looks like Walt grabbed Denise’s head while she was facing him and, with the second hand on her head, has forced Denise to face into the flames. Perhaps for the purpose of burning her. Or she may have turned away from that maw.
But he could also trying to crush her skull.
Turning her around though, permits her to get her concealed weapon, which is likely a folding knife. Portia, if I recall said she was stabbed, and her wounds were deep.
A razor would be logical for first cutting a vein for a bleed-out, but for butchery you’d want knives.
Had she still been facing Walt, he would have seen her go for the weapon.
Great action sequence, I suppose. We are certainly going to witness the graphic details of the death of one or both characters.
But I’m not satisfied.
Problem one: Denise, with 99.44% chance of going down for good, will probably not be suitable fodder for the so-called neural indexer. We need to know what she knows!
Problem two: While it may have been Portia ‘s desire for Walt to protect her as she confronted the butcher, it was Velda who decided to let him take vigilante justice on Denise.
I know I’m not alone in thinking that Velda is not on the up-and-up. And right now, three possible witnesses are already leaving the room, if they have not already left! If Denise succeeds in taking Walt with her, that’s a fourth witness that we’ve lost.
While we have been set up to want a good dose of revenge, methinks an even greater injustice is taking place right under our very noses!
I wonder if there’s any possibility of another party or parties intervening at this point? Police, firemen, security rats, anyone? It would certainly be welcome!
Diat60: Actually, a follow-on comment to yours and mine above: Just how long before the rats decide things are out-of-control once again, and we have yet another mass slaughter of the innocents?
At this point, I don’t think the law enforcement we have seen will be effective against Walt.
Only the rats can do anything now, and we know that they are more bloodthirsty than Walt! Much more.
Given her position and short arms, she might be able to slice at his hands (paws) but that’s about it. As a wise man once said, “No, no, don’t shoot him. You’ll only make him mad.” I doubt anything short of an elephant gun would slow Walt down at this point.
Even if her head is facing away from him, she could swivel her body 90 degrees and have her hand in line with his throat. Or just put her hand directly behind her neck and do his wrists, or a backhanded slash to the throat as he closes in to bite. Might not save her, but could make him bleed out and follow.
Hmm… Could Denise’s last name be Todd? Denise Todd who became known as a “cut throat” DA and given the nickname Swiney Todd. Little did anyone know she was the Demon DA of Fleet Street.
Will Walt face the fate of Fuzzy Wuzzy? Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear. Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair. Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn’t very fuzzy was he?
Things have been weird ever since Marx brought Wally, Holly, Linda and Petey back through his “rabbit hole” to Endtown. I just can’t help wondering if he might have brought them back to a slightly different reality than the one they left.

Looks like Denise has a razor. Now we know who slashed Portia. Walt may not make it.

The razor is drawn wrong. the cutting edge should be to the inside not the outside.

Straight razor only cuts about 1/2 inch deep and the blade is quite easy to chip. NOT a good weapon against a 500 pound Grizzly.

Oh, so she still carries her tools. But that won’t get her far – she might cut, but not deep or serious.
