A physics teacher should be grateful to get thanks from any student.

There seems to be a lot of potential energy there. But it must first overcome a huge amount of inertia.

Potential energy is useless if it remains only potential. And Peter, you probably expended a lot more than 300 joules simply by explaining all that.

3 times a year, o my school bus, I have to do safety talks and evacuation drills. One day, the high school students were mocking me after I yelled at them for eating, and one of them imitated me talking about sitting properly and "encapsulation.’ I said “Make fun of me all you want, but you just proved to me that you were listening!”

He may be messing with you, teacher, but at least he’s using physics knowledge to do it. You’re getting through to him on some level.

SO… Peter masses about 60kg? (135lb) seems reasonable.

Once took a class where the instructor asked everyone to stand on their chairs for a “new perspective”.

It’s at least encouraging that some of what is sinking in, even if it is misapplied.

I swear I was at a Thanksgiving dinner with that physics instructor yesterday. Same hair, beard and wrinkles, and yes, he’s a (retired) physics instructor!

I mean, he should get some extra credit for calculating that.

There is a daily “Fox Trot Classics” comic in black and white here on GoComics. The strip is old enough to seem new all over again.
