Yesterday was a surprising moment in the history of this comments board. I was attacked by everyone’s darling Pequod, who proceeded to call me;
A dog
A troll
Stupid
Smelly
Preacher of hate
And that I shouldn’t read Dick Tracy
What amazed me the most wasn’t that only one person had the Ostrich eggs to call him out on his hatred but that 11 people actually liked his vile attack on me and my freedom of expression.
Everyone loses when bullies are allowed to attack those who disagree with them. I hope you 11 and those who turned a blind eye to his disgusting post think long and hard at what you’ve allowed to go unchallenged.
Polar Vortex is the last person you should trust with your money. I do t understand what the “neighborhood bank plan” was, but maybe it doesn’t matter much because this wasn’t like that, he says.
It seems that Polar’s predecessor got Miller to invest his money in a fake bank, but I guess it was really invested, so it’s really Polar who is up to no good.
The scheme isn’t really clear, but it seems that Vortex’s predecessor convinced Miller to invest $50,000 into a “fake” trust fund for his heir. Normally the money would then be spent in a Ponzi-scheme esque plot (which is to say, the money wouldn’t be there 40 years later) but Miller’s attorney made sure that the money couldn’t be moved until both Miller’s heir (Pitchblende) and Vortex both showed up. I think.
The relevant version is that Miller’s going to withdraw a ton of cash and Vortex is going to try and kill him for it.
What we have here is a classic case of Mike scrambling to come up with some sort of story to utilize a new character when the ORIGINAL storyline got scrapped.
Explain to me how Vortex’s plan goes from “kidnapping Crystal, getting her hooked on drugs, and using her to push their product thru the school” to this?
Sorry, but i am sticking with the notion that Mike’s original story got pinched by the muckety-mucks at the newspaper company and they killed it before it could take off.
Remember, upon his intro, Pauly was described as someone who “If tracy gets within 6 feet of him there will be no more tracy” yet mid-story we get a ridiculous retcon of “I did it for my daddy!” and Pauly not only is outgunned, even tho he had two guns to tracy’s one while sam just stood there, but much like tracy’s LAST shootout, his opponent gets killed… and now theres THIS?!?!
BTW, kudos to Polar for steering clear of having everything on computer and sticking with old school paper files in a filing cabinet!
The scam, while a bit convoluted, is clear enough. No reason at all that a criminal can’t be engaged in more than one illegal activity. The film festival is a good way to bring Vitamin into the story. The Deacon and Miller film, Gobs at Sea, echoes Laurel and Hardy’s 1940 feature, Saps at Sea. While the pivot in plotline doesn’t bother me, I am disappointed that we did not see Honeymoon and Crystal reunited with loved ones. Also, I have to believe that the Apparatus won’t sit idly by while their turf is encroached upon. Deacon looks a bit like the late, great Ernie Kovacs, the innovative comedian, actor and writer.
Seems as though skipping the comments yesterday was not a bad choice. As for today, thanks to all who have tried to clarify the scam in progress. I’m not quite sure I follow it yet, but then again I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
Not sure this latest caper makes any real sense, on several levels. Were “Russian mobsters” even around 40-odd years ago, when the Soviet Union was still in business?
Well, as far as i am concerned, today’s bit of “explication” just muddies the waters further. Even after reading and re-reading the strip, plus the comments here, I really don’t follow what the scam is, or was, or is supposed to be; and that our boy Piotr tells us he was involved from the start (40 or more years ago?) is disconcerting, to say the least (or is he saying that Miller’s attorney then put something into the trust document that forces Volkov now to act in a certain way?).
What I will suggest regarding how the story is playing out is that it does seem to me that Mike may be over-extending himself: I see over on that social networking site, which I choose to leave unnamed, that he is at one comics convention after another and seems to work on or collaborate on many projects other than Dick Tracy….
I didn’t see the comments that were made yesterday. However something is getting lost here, for Pete’s sake this is just a comic strip. Those who engage in vile attacks are going to have a coronary over the keyboards. Question to ask would I want my next of kin or the coroner to see what the last thing I did was before my untimely demise from this world?

As I read this strip, the name “Bernie Madoff” comes to mind…
TheRedSnifit hinted at a “Ponzi Scheme” in his post and this looks like one…
