Whoa. Way overboard. Irma beats my aunt in law Peggy. I only put up a wreath on the door and a string of lights on the porch. We used to hang lights around the house but at our current age, it is just too much work and a simple line on the porch suffices. Oh yeah, and a Season Greetings mat. Simple is more is my motto.

This is as tacky as you get. It could be included in one of Jeff Foxworthy’s “redneck” books. It could make Larry, the cable guy, run to the nearest Home Depot to use their bathroom plumbing display. Just make these awful people go away.

Whoever said it yesterday, they were right on: Gunther is looking more feminine every day!

And to Schrodinger’s Dog, who yesterday said that Greg “put to sleep” the notion that G&K may be preparing us for a gay Gunther, methinks there are enough continuity errors over the years, well, at this point, anything is possible!

Gunther is not the point people. RIght now the romance angle is not being played. Les is being humanized in an hilarity ensues Luannverse way. I keep saying. On the other hand Tiffany is being terrorized, also in a bizarro Luannverse kind of way. How those arcs will end up is interesting, but even though Gunther seems to be regressing, which he really is not, he is in a good space now, and Les seems to be progressing, Gunther himself is not the main point of this particular arc. People are obsessed with Gunther too much IMHO again.

I’m not American but I love the way Americans do Christmas. I’ve had too many where the family Grinch wrecked it all so that even when I was on my own for all those years I would go the whole hog with the tree, decorations, lights and a small but proper Christmas dinner.

Interesting thread: do the step brothers end up in a rivalry over Tiffany (with a side of vengeance on one Anne Eiffel), become the new Felix and Oscar, or do they jump in the deep end and go Bert and Ernie?? Plus what if that Aussie kid comes back, Luann’s old flame? Does he become a third wheel???: The plot thickens!

Gunther both looks and acts more nearly like a 6-year-old boy every day. If it was ever the writers’ plan to make him a more “mature” character upon his return from Peru, they’ve apparently changed their minds.

Gunther is taking the lead in frame one by grabbing Les and jerking him outside. There is or was a textile mill town near Charlotte, NC where the owner of the mill, a Mr. Pharr paid their power bills every December so the citizens could go all out decorating their houses. Traffic would be backed up as tourists came to see the displays. Jim and Tammi Baker of PTL Club fame decorated their property at Christmas. People visited the lights for a small donation.

Today, Gunther had been drawn to look twinky. I wish I could rip that sweater off, throw it in the trash, and put some manly clothing on him. He was looking quite masculine and grown up on 7-14-18. Compare that comic with today’s. On 7-14-18, he was wearing the same color clothing, and was dealing with his mom and her storage, but he looked like a young man, unlike today. His movements are different today. The shape of his body is different today. His hairline is different. They are drawing him to look and dress and gesture like a pubescent girl. He even has curves. Look at his hips, as compared with 7-14-18. I hope this is just an experiment and will pass. I don’t like it at all. Give the guy a break.

I realize the strip’s creators are trying to emphasize the contrast between Gunther’s enthusiasm for celebrating the holiday and Les’s “meh” attitude towards it, but in Panel 1 they’ve taken things too far by actually transforming Gunther into an elf.

@Mordock999 et ales I’m starting to get the impression that that the Leslie character is beginning to supplant Gunther in the Luann strip pantheon. The character has been moving toward a curmudgeon-like persona from the vicious bully trope. A movement most commenters believe to be positive even if skeptical.

While Gunther, with the shaving incident, the poor handling of Tiffany at the dinner and his being drawn as being indistinguishable from his mother is diminishing him in positive reader interest.

When I was little, the neighbors across the street had a homemade plywood snow family, which was made and hand painted in the 1940s. As a 2 year old, I was fascinated with it, and scrutinized it every year. When I was an adult, I found the same plywood snow family in an antique shop in the same town, and bought it. I can’t be sure it was the very one that was across the street, but if it isn’t, it’s an exact duplicate. (I have never seen another decoration like it, before or since.) We put our antique snow family in front of the house, and a wreath on the door and that’s it. We’ve talked about making life-sized wise men/camels on plywood (my husband is an artist and does very beautiful work) with a star in a very high place—on the tip of the roof or high in a tree—but we haven’t gotten around to it. Every year we talk about it, which is fun in itself.

The neatest Christmas decoration I’ve ever seen in a front yard was Santa and Mrs. Claus sitting in a Model T. I would love to do that, and we have a 1915 Model T Ford touring car, but I would be very uncomfortable leaving it in the front yard.

Maybe G & K have devised Gunther’s hyped up Christmas zeal for the following purpose: On Christmas Day, Frame 1 has a Christmas Dinner table with Frank, Nancy, Brad, Toni, Shannon, Luann and yes, Luann brought Jack. Frame 2 has a Christmas Dinner table with Al, Irma, Tom, Ann, Gunther, Les & Tiffany. Al is doing the cherry stem trick and everybody is laughing. Maybe a caption below: “Peace on Earth – Merry Christmas.”

Let’s hope this was a “filler” week so that we won’t have to endure more of this in December. Don’t the students at Moony Uni and at Luann’s community college have exams, term papers, homework assignments, lab reports, etc., due before the Christmas break? A story about that would be better than one about anything that goes on in the “guest house”. For that matter, so would be a story about another one of Pru’s Christmas pageants at the Fuse, even though of course we wouldn’t ever actually see it.

I especially hate those huge ugly inflatable things. What does Scooby Do have to do with Christmas? Just because you put a Santa hat on something doesn’t make it a Christmas decoration. Would so much rather see a small tasteful display including greenery and just a few lights.
