Seems like rhyming and coffee always help, though

What coffee doesn’t solve, alcohol will.

Thus, Irish Coffee is the miracle cure.

I can remember stupid commercial jingles from decades ago, even jingles that irritated the heck out of me. If my math teachers had used rhyme to teach algebra, I probably would have done much better at it.

I still like the finer gaps in my Fahrenheit. But I’ll try and remember this. Maybe with music.

I’ve been looking for an old strip but haven’t been able to find it. One of the students is looking out the class window complaining about a wet rainy day after the fall foliage is gone. Mrs. Olsen chimes in that it’s good because it isn’t snow yet. Does anyone remember or know of this strip?

In Canada, the metric conversion took place in the 70s when I was a teenager. For most people now, speeds, temperature, are second nature in metric. But for some reasons, I’m still 5’9’’, my shoe size is 8.5 and my yard is 200ft deep. Go figure…

I never thought of coffee (or my pipe for that matter) as being able to solve my problems. But, I have viewed them as ways to salve my wounds from my problems. :)

As always, it is wonderful to see Principal Spaetzel! He is such a great character in this comic.

I’m with Spaetzle but I wonder if coffee actually helps solve my problems or just make them more tolerable? Eternal question and one I shall continue to investigate every day.

But coffee itself can present a problem. There are now so many choices, selecting just one can be frustrating. Then, after trying several, remembering which one I liked best becomes a hunt back through the selections until I find it. A chore but I will man up and get it done.

My experience is that coffee doesn’t solve my problems, it just helps me focus so that I can solve my problems. My pipe (when I used to smoke) and my vape pen (now) do same.

For practical purposes, you take the Celsius number, double it , add 30 and, voila! you have Fahrenheit (or close enough for a really good approximation)!

In Canada at the time of metrication, my rule was: 20 you can go to the beach, 25 you can go in the water, 30 you have to go in the water. Vancouver had very little air conditioning at that time.

the real answer to measurement conversion, of course, is for the last remaining bastion on Earth of ACHU (the Accidental Collection of Heterogeneous Units) to finally actually convert to the metric system, thereby sparing us the confusion (plus enhancing our position in world trade). ACHU has great words suitable for poetry, and that’s what it should be consigned to. To get real work done, go metric!

That’s why chocolate is my drug of choice. I used to used a Hershey’s Syrup IV drip, but not I just sniff cocoa powder, much more effective!

As weather doggerel goes, it’s not as common as “red sky at night,” but I think “zero’s ice” is a little more useful. If I’m anything to go by, it’s extremely useful. Not only does it make Celsius instantly relatable, it’s a reminder that, useful as math is, it’s not always the straightest route from one concept to another.

As opposed to a line, which is the shortest distance between two points, which is different. And which is according to math, so math may be trying to cover its assets.

Rhyming as a learning tool: I still remember this from a sitcom from the early 60’s:“In 1066At the Battle of HastingsThe normans gave the Saxons A pasting.”

I had another one about Mason and Dixon, but you have to draw the line somewhere.
