Thankful to be cancer-free! Thankful for Tre-C and Megan, and the ability to write about them. Thankful for the Orb, and all the Orbsters who have so graciously let me in and have enjoyed my stories. Thankful for the roof over my head and the food in my belly. Thankful that, even with just my SSI, I can still peel off a few bucks for a charity. And I thank the Lord and Lady (and the muses) for it all. Every day.
Let anybody else grab Elvis’ ear like that and see what happens. (Well, the Woman might get away with it with nothing more than an offended look, but I don’t suggest any experimentation to find out.)
I’m thankful that I now know what this Thanksgiving thing is. When we were kids, we saw references to it in American comics. We didn’t understand what it was. The turkey dinner suggested that “Thanksgiving” was a weird American word for Christmas. (We knew Americans called lots of things by the wrong name or by some weird word no-one else used.) But it was pretty clear from other comics that the Americans did, in fact, know the right word for Christmas. So we had no explanation for Thanksgiving. It was part of the general weirdness of Americans.
In my later years I learned what it was about. Those comics finally made some sort of sense.
“What did you do that got you out?” “Well, Max, I must have still been thinking of my home when I entered the Stream, because I was drawn forward, then lightly to the right. Did you feel the pull in there? Kind of like a strong breeze or an ocean current?” Max immediately replied; “Sure did! Never been in the ocean, but I understand the reference.” “That’s why I call it the Slipstream.” Maxie’s eyes were locked upon Megan’s. “Is it hard to go against the Stream?” “Well, Max, that’s the really strange part. If you were to stop right where you were and think of where you just came from, he stream would flow back the way you were thinking of. It will still ‘lead’ you even if you change direction.” Maxie just nodded. “So after walking a bit, my vision got fuzzy- just for an instant. When it cleared I was only a few hundred feet from my home. As you just experienced, it’s a very short trip but it has a memorable finish…”
Happy Thanksgiving to the American neighbours! And especially to Georgia and her family for bringing all of us together from all over the world to enjoy a comic about cats :)
Awww! All the feels especially Pucky with Buzzy Mouse thankful for friendship! Bless! Hope his fuzzy companion never gets stolen away from him ;-) t’would be a tragedy! (glaring at the scampering, shifty mice in the first panel) ♥
I have an odd thing that I am newly thankful for today.
Yesterday (Wednesday) was food bank day. As I was standing in line, I overheard some of the other people talking about their phone bills. I’m guessing that they must have cell phones, because they were saying that they had a data cap… and that they were not supposed to be able to go over that limit. Yet every month, they did just that, which brought their monthly bill from $100 to $165.
I had been unhappy about my own phone bill, which is a few cents over $85. It has been this high ever since I tried to reduce it last year, only to learn that the phone company will only sell their services in a bundle (I had wanted to only have basic phone service, internet, and caller ID, I had thought that if I only had those three services, that my bill should go down). After learning about the excessive phone bills those other people have, I am very grateful that mine is not that high.
I am also very grateful that my phone bill will not be going any higher since I am now on a program that guarantees that my fees will remain the same as long as I live in the same place. I had gone with this program because no matter what I did, my phone bill was going to be higher than it had been.
I am thankful for hubby, our 8 adult children, the fur babies, and the Mega Orb. I am cooking today for my friend family of 10 and a separate meal for 40 at the community soup kitchen. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.
Happy US Thanksgiving everyone. Too much to list so will just use my hubs favorite quote “Make gratitude your attitude!” Blessings of all types to you all.
Autumn is my favorite time of year, and I’m always down with a harvest celebration. And I’m thankful for the opportunity to be thankful, because I’ve truly been blessed. But the historical events surrounding “The First Thanksgiving” have always skeeved me out. The kindness shown the Pilgrims by the peoples of the First Nations was eventually repaid with genocide. That’s the kind of thing that is heavy on one’s heart.
Back to the point, gang! Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow orbsters in the U.S. of A. Let’s all count our blessings, wherever we live. That’s what Thanksgiving is supposed to be about, my rest-of-the-world orbsters. Being thankful for what we have, remembering those who don’t have, and sharing what we do have with family, friends and the “angels unaware”. Live long and prosper!
Good morning, and a very, very happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the U.S. May you happily overdose on Turkey, the Macy’s parade, and football!!
I have to be off shortly to catch the bus to go for an eye exam. It is currently 0F (-17C) here, so I will bundle up and actually wear something to cover my ears. I’m pretty sure that between Paul and me, there is a tuque or three hanging around the coat closet.
I am Thankful for the BCN family. Also for my 3 angels. Please be careful what you feed your pets today. I bought a turkey leg that I cooked with no seasoning and pulled all the meat off the bone. And I made some tuna catnip cookies (https://www.petful.com/food/simple-homemade-tuna-catnip-cookies/) for desert. I know I spoil them, but, no grands at my house this year. They went to the other grandma’s house. :(
I’m very thankful for this BCN family, especially you, Georgia, for sharing your family and your talent with us. You’ll never know how many lives you’ve touched and how much joy and laughter you’ve given us. Sometimes BCN is the only bright spot in some of our days. Happy Thanksgiving & my love to you, your family, furry and not so furry. Also sending prayers of comfort for The Man and for all of our family suffering loss and every other kind of pain. Happy Thanksgiving!
Those little Robber Mice are certainly up to their tricks. I wonder if we will see everything they’ve ‘borrowed’ show up at Christmas time, in the barn maybe, for the other animals of course. Stay tuned.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! I hope you all have a happy, safe day full of reasons to feel thankful! Thank you so much for reading our comic and spending time chatting here together! I’m so thankful for all of you, this sweet little space we’ve created to love cats, make jokes, and tell stories, and that I get to create ‘Breaking Cat News’ for you!!! Much love to you and yours from our home to your home!!!
I’m off to join a few of my cousins. We’re meeting at a different restaurant this year. I hope we don’t get lost on the way! Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate. Happy Thursday to the rest of the world.
Remembering my dad’s favorite blessing before a meal, “There’s the taters; there’s the meat. All you hungry sinners, sit down and eat. AMEN!”
My dad insisted that if God didn’t have a sense of humor, He’d never have invented the human race.
I’m thankful the fire extinguisher worked. It was chilly in the living room last night so my daughter plugged in a small space heater. Unfortunately she plugged it into the same power strip as the TV. A few minutes later there were sparks shooting out of the wall outlet behind the bookshelves that the power strip was plugged into. I hollered for help and grabbed the fire extinguisher while she got everything unplugged as fast as possible and I sprayed the outlet. Everything seems to be fine except for the one fried outlet. Even the books that were getting hit by the sparks weren’t singed.
And yes, I found a store that was open and have replaced the fire extinguisher.
I am thankful for the life I have currently, as well as for the experiences that brought me to this point … hard times make you grateful for your blessings!
You guys inspired me to make my very first cranberry sauce (I’m almost 65)! So thanks for that! Also, I’m thankful for the amazing moon rise I just saw on my twilight walk in 13 degree temperatures just now. Leaves that fall after a ten-inch snowfall, then get bathed in snowmelt, then get flash-frozen by temps in the teens make an amazing edgy crunch underfoot. Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it, and happy Thursday to everyone else!
Thank you, Georgia. You and the boys have helped get me through the worst two years of my life. I wish you and all your friends, family, and readers (and cats!) a beautiful holiday season and year to come.
The new restaurant served chunky cranberry sauce that had bits of apple and an undertone of orange. It was edible, but I missed my cranberry space goo!
Thankful my family is under one roof (for a few days), safe and sound. Thankful the fur people are all healthy and happy. Thankful to be home from work with my feet up and a hot toddy in hand. Thankful for all my co-workers who brought one of the best pot luck Thanksgiving feasts on the face of the earth. Thankful that my surgery is next week, cuz I’m (literally) on my last leg :-). And thankful that, as a border dweller, I get TWO Thanksgivings every year!
I am thankful to Georgia for delighting us every day with news that’s important to cats, because cats are very important! And to the Orbsters, my dear friends, my family, and everyone who has stood by me and helped in my current crisis, I believe I will find a way and a home! With my beautiful fluffy kitty cat (who is reporting on the benefits of sleep right now)! My mom always said God works through people. You do not have to be Christian or any religion to know that spreading kindness and love and helping people who are in need, even just a few dollars or your old clothes to Savers or whatever, is when we are at our most God-like. Amen, that’s my Thanksgiving prayer.
