Calvin must be over the moon when he gets an F.

Susie was probably hoping for an A+. She failed to match her expectations!

Good luck, Calvin. Life is not easy, period.

She was hoping that he would get an F so that he would not advance a grade and she would never have to share a classroom with him again.

In school in the 60s we were told that a C meant “average.” And yet we were all expected to be far above average! So it wasn’t really average at all.

The older I get the lower my expectations. Realized long ago that keeping up with whomever was a fools errand. Steady moves to eliminate the “need” to meet the expectations of society have proved to be a big relief. The chase for the latest, greatest and new looks tiring.

I think he has a point, if he parts his hair right it won’t show.

Keep expectations low and avoid disappointments.

I think my mother-in-law had this comic posted on her refrigerator.

Calvin is edging into the Peter Principle, where you will advance to the level of your incompetence and be content to take root there.

I was tempted to write on an evaluation for a subordinate:

“Sets low standards for himself and fails to achieve them.”

“Passes wind, passes water or passes out depending on the stressfulness of the situation.”

Smart kid.

If you get straigt As there’s no room for improvement.

The younger me used to think that he wanted a C because his name started with C.

That boy’s got a lot of quit in him ;)

Look where G W Bush ended up. He did ok for a kid who struggled to get a “C” grade.

So true. I rather have the A means absorbed material.

C for Ctupendous Man.

Just don’t take an IQ test. Everyone was happy with my “C” average until I made that mistake. That blew my cover so badly in high school that the whole school was talking about it, and about what could be done to adequately challenge me ( as if just existing in high school isn’t challenging enough). Too bad I wasn’t smart enough to realize that I was smart so I could have done just well enough to squeak by.

Calvin may be on to something here. There were a lot of busts among my high school hot shot class and remarkable achievements from some of those not expected to amount to much.

Calvin got a “C” did he? That’s orders of magnitude better than usual.

That could work…

“Never bat .400 in your rookie season.”

Calvin will go far in the Washington Redskin’s organization with that attitude.

Over the moon and in Tartarus when the parents find out.

Yeah. While you’re at it, lower your standards.

To a degree, that actually works in life. The payoff is keeping the stress level low.
